  1. This problem has a simple solution. Make the mileage of emission tests public through a database (At least the problem will be solved for used cars). It is a mafia. I did talk to a few vehicle valuers who are the who and Who's of the vehicle valuers association. They do not want to implement. I spoke to a Deputy Commissioner of RMV who is a MBA batchmate of mine. Neither are they interested. If you know anyone that can help lobby it would be a great service to the general public who intend to buy second hand registered vehicles

  2. See..this is my point @gayanath....we have people shouting for permits and increased taxes. But where are the people demonstrating and shouting asking for safe school buses ? or making the private buses safe ? When the government enforced high penalties for buses they held the entire country hostage....how ? why ? we are the majority..we could have held them hostage and made them fall in line with the regulations. But we didn't..because for our population, it meant they themselves will have to sweat for it. When AIrbags were made mandatory....people went and yelled saying cars are getting expensive and that they are being discriminated because they do not have the ability to buy "expensive" vehicles with airbags...WTF ??? We really do not care that 3000+ people died on our roads. We only care when one of that 3000+ becomes one of our own family members or our selves. We rise up and shout against terrorists blowing up the country..but we do not care about people terrorizing the country every minute with lorries dressed up as buses. We yell about people making bombs and walking around with hidden weapons...but we stay shut about pancake like damaged cars being put back together and on to the street and sold off to people that are nothing but time bombs. We yell about the bakery guy whose pan raaththala is only 90% of the weight of a raaththala...but we stay shut about people selling crap for cars under false pretenses.

  3. And, after all.... People would say, Sri Lankan cars wear down fast in such a low millage due to bad environmental conditions, quality of fuel, ets. Therefore, please do frequent oil changes, engine tune ups, etc.........?? Its hard to find a car in SL having 200,000+ km on ODO but engines overhauled. ????

  5. Swift RST imported to SL with 46000km. The owners manual doesn't mention anything about gearbox oil change/intervals. A*W recommends to change every 40,000km. Appreciate an expert view on this.

  10. All this will become a requirement if and when a strict road worthy certification system is actually implemented. Until that day comes mileage tampering is no one's concern. Only other hope is that consumer protection frameworks actually protect the consumer and people can actually sue car sales people for selling crap..but that too will never happen because no one cares a crap. To be honest...the consumers don't seem to care as well. As long as it is cheap and has certain badges of specific color and looks shiny they will happily buy any p.o.s. They only care about cheapness...cheap to buy...cheap to run. Then when their low mileage Japan car breaks down..they just say the model is not good for SL out of pure and utter ignorance. Then we are also stuck in the whole 80s mentality where a high mileage car is all doom and gloom....because then you actually ahve to spend some money on some proper maintenance work. If the government enforces proper road worthy certification systems and makes things like tampering of critical components illegal, that would mean the owners will actually have to spend time and money in fixing cars. That goes against what SL car buyers want. we see our people striking for permits, cheap petrol, high import taxes...how many have you seen lobbying and protesting asking for better safety features, or lemon laws or ensuring that vehicles are safe ?

  11. The CVT boxes are considered to be non-serviceable items....so the manual would not have an oil change requirement. Only thing is that the workshop manual with the scheduled pre-emptive maintenance listing will have check and replace at 100,000km. However this does not work for conditions similar to SL...depending on the usage and the gearbox itself..anything from 20K - 40K seems to be what is recommended by most agents in SL.

  12. Congrats on your car! Based on our environment, 40,000km does seem okay, but I'd recommend earlier changes at 25,000km just to be safe. When bought from the right place, oil is wayyyyyyy cheaper than a gearbox repair bill.

  13. My relation visited us in mid 2019 by newly bought Toyota Vitz 2016 (as an unregistered car from a Big car seller a week before) with the millage 27,XXX km. By just looking tires and the condition of the car, I had a doubt so I checked a bit. I could find a Japanese maintenance bill at the millage of 44,XXX km which kept inside the owners and maintenance manual (may be the car seller couldn't check the book). I took photos of that one and chassis number and other details. Then searched online after my relation has gone. By referring around hundreds of vitz auction records I could find the auction sheet of the same car with the millage of 51,XXX km. However the condition of the car is not bad. It was 3.5 grade with interior B. No pint of breaking the heart of my relation so, kept silent. ??. ??

  14. Any chance to lockdown a Daihatsu Charade? I haven't seen anyone mentioned about it but they not bad since you are not considering the look. I have done a quick scan and they are well within your price bracket. I have had a G200 Detomaso back in 2010, was a mean car and still looking for a decent one ? If you Luckey you can lock down a G100, have a think about it. good luck!! JC.

  17. JEVIC ones usually have a tag on the car with a QR code, you can scan this and check the original mileage of the car. Sadly these are like unicorn level rare as the salesmen tear it off. if you need to check the auction details I have a guy , pm for details

  19. Welcome to the forum....where pretty much all the cars are concerned what I can add is pretty much what Matroska has added. As for the Auris....well...I don't think you can find one within your budget. The E150 series (which is the first generation of Auris) I believe sells for around 3mil ++ . The E150 Auris is based on the E140 series Corolla platform (which in turn is the same platform used for the Allion/Premio). If you are going for the 150 Auris....well...it is just another no frills Corolla that will get you from A to B. The driving feeling is pretty much same to a Axio 140 series (non existent) with a 1NZ-FE engine. Steering feels direct which makes you think you can chuck it in to a corner..but the steering has no feeling or feed back whatsoever. So you feel the car just turn to wherever you point the steering to...but because of the lack of feedback and feel you would not know when or where the wheels are are actually pointing too and if it is about to break out and understeer (but you wouldn't be pushing the car like this for daily driving so it would be just another FWD car). The soft suspension makes it roll a bit; granted it does feel more firm and jittery than the Corolla/Axio. The Hybrid variant came from the UK as a Hybrid variant was not available for this model in Japan. No idea how the Hybrid feels. The RS on the other hand is a lot better....has a 1.8L engine and stiffer suspension and the car is worlds apart from its standard 1.5L sibling, but still no steering feel whatsoever but the controlled body movement gives you a lot more confidence. Never seen a RS in Sri Lanka For your budget...I believe what you might be able to purchase is a RunX or an Allex. Again..based on the Corolla 120 platform....it feels much lighter (it probably is) than the Auris and the 1NZ engine feels a lot more peppier as a result. The steering being a conventional hydraulic PS has much more feeling and feedback. Again...the sportier variant is the one with the 2ZZ 1.8L VVTL-i engine. The variant with the 1.8L engine had some TRD special editions as well where the ECU is programmed differently to put out a bit more power, upgraded suspension, body kit, etc...In Sri Lanka there are a few TRD variants around and some of them have tuned engines that actually squeeze a lot more than what it was with the stock 1.8L engine,

  20. Welcome to the forum - I see you've done some homework on the cars which is commendable. See replies above also you could consider the following - Lancer CS1/2/3 : you'll be able to get something from 2008 or 2009 - FIT GE6 : non hybrid version of the GP1 minus the hybrid motor - check the Vin code some may be affected by the engine oil burn. - Yaris 2007/2008 : There are still a few yaris imported b/new on permits still with original owners these are usually agent maintained are in good condition. -Nissan Tiida - if you're ok with the looks...it isn't a bad car at all you could get 2008 or maybe even a 2009 unit for your budget.

  23. Just to share my experiences. We had to exchange our GP1 for a CHR from a Car Sale in Kurunegala. The car was heavily used clocked nearly 160,000 km. Since my wife used it her long daily drive, the interior was in mint condition. Recently, I checked the web-site of the car sale, to my surprise the car sales guys have rejuvenated the car, now it has done only 60000 km . The lesson, never trust these car salespeople either when buying a new or used car!!!!!
