  1. To OP The fuel figure timeline car sellers, if you drive it right it does like 30kmpl or even more, blah blah first fellows who buy it like ”machan it does 40kmpl believe me” I went from Galle to puttlam to anuradhapura to airport with my dogs in 1 tank the second lot mid year, who sold their vitzs due to peer pressure it does 30kmpl, just like my Vitz but it’s so better, I put 95 now, pickup is so good it’s soo smooth ( they lied about the vitz fuel figure as well) the last lot by the end of the year, who buy it for a price hike, (current price + hike)= pora buyer it does 4kmpl, (Deep within, I put a loan and a lease to buy it because my co worker and Neighbour and brothers wife’s sisters uncles second wife got one, I don’t have money for petrol so I just take it for a 10km stroll on Sunday in the traffic) and he spent this months salary on the chrome, carpets and 3m tint and 10inch Chinese player. jokes aside mate to get an accurate value for this you ll have to wait for at least 1 year. Given the engine and the turbo expect 13kmpl or less on long distances but Just a guess. Do not get so worked up on the fuel figures bro, these are budget suvs, some chum on a bike gets intimate with the tailgate or the lights or a mirror, you ll be looking at 1 years fuel costs, if you aren’t prepared for that expense buy something else. car salesmen, personal importers, fb forums they push you and bluff so beware.

  2. "Torque" There is a reason why its expensive, its sought after and it's good, Again how is a turbo going to help in getting the required torque? You would be stressing the engine, premature wear Plus the cost of the whole conversion custom work The engine plus conversion work, you are looking at 700000 to 800000 if done properly. Then dmt fees and the hassle Then the "additional fees" in the dmt Youd be able to buy all new Td42 parts except the block, plus block rebuild and the gearbox for the above costs.

  3. These engines have been used from coaster buses, lorries to their flagship montero, if problems were in order I doubt mitsubishi will be a company now. Of course a Frankenstein nissan patrol with a Mitsubishi heart is likely to have problems Also I noticed, so many experienced people have pitched in their ideas and suggestions yet you prevail to impose your own myth. Unless the block or head is cracked or warped, with a decent sum of money much lesser than a new engine, you can build the engine to brand new spec, esp Td42, but u need experience and a good mechanic, then it's a matter of finding a imported transmission. Dont cut corners when trying to build / restore an old suv, it will be a nightmare to run and will be stuck with an unreliable lump. Take your time, do your research and build her properly.

  4. I still haven't bought one but I have my eye on one patrol(the above mentioned one). I like the Patrol Y60 cuz it has a lot of road presence and the prices of em are reasonable compared to rivals like the land cruiser Sahara.

  5. Octane boosters. For example, Avgas and Toluene... Avgas has an octane rating of 100 so 6 liters of Avgas mixed with 4 liters of 95 octane petrol would make 10 liters of 98 octane fuel. Toluene has an octane rating of 121, so 1 liter of toluene mixed with 9 liters of 95 octane petrol would make 10 liters of 98 octane petrol.

  7. The manufacturer says strictly 98+ Octane for the 4B11T. My car's warranty booklet specifies that if anything lower than 98 is used, it will void the warranty. The owner's manual warns of potential engine damage as well. And then there's this on the fuel filler lid: If you read on pre-ignition, you will understand how destructive it can be. Basically, since the low octane fuel cannot withstand pressure as much as the intended fuel, it ignites before the piston reaches the end of the compression stroke. This creates massive pressure inside the combustion chamber and can cause damage (not instantly obviously). The most obvious side effect is that the engine can overheat due to the excessive pressure in the combustion chamber and the list goes on. So yeah, 98 for sure on most forced induction engines like the 4B11T.

  8. I`d say TD42 all the way. These can be turbocharged if required yea? Apparently can even be done with the factory fuel pump. I haven't driven a TD42 in person, but I do know that old school small displacement turbo diesels are a royal pain in the arse under off-road conditions (in heavy 4WD`s like the Patrol). Especially when a whole lot of toque is not available until the turbo is spooled up. Higher displacement non turbo`s generally have good low down torque and tend to be extremely long lived engines due to the under-stressed nature. The TD42 is a legendary engine and any Patrol with a TD42 still demands a premium over any lower capacity Diesel where I live (Australia)...

  10. Like tiv mentioned...you are not going to get an accurate fuel figure until someone uses a car for a long period of time. For example, the fuel figures during the break-in period and after the break-in period itself can differ. Since the Raizes have just started coming in to SL no one in the island can tell you what actual real-life figures are. However, in SL, you will never get to know the actual fuel figures..because when it comes to talking about fuel figures...we Sri Lankans are like a bunch of horny, virgin teenage boys at a party that is a total sausage fest talking about how they net in hot babes every weekend. What most car sellers state is what the manufacturer's website says it is in Japan. Since Japanese manufacturers moved away from JC08 the reported value has become pretty accurate. However, it is accurate for Japan...not in SL. The contexts are different. For starters, in Japan cars run in cooler temperatures for a larger part of the year than in Sri Lanka....then on top of that..there are more city-loop/urban expressways and more highway usage in Japan than in SL. To give you an idea....the average traffic speed in Tokyo last year was 15.7kmph..in cities like Osaka, Fukuoka the average speed is close to 25kmph. In contrast the average speed in Colombo is a little over 7kmph. So we literally sit in raffic almost twice as long as Tokyoites do and that effects fuel figures... Some Japanese car magazines have been using press Raizes for a few months now and according to their articles the fuel figures are better than what Toyota has claimed (by rounding up...so pretty much the same). But again...different context

  11. Mate the planning you’ve put in here; life being so unpredictable I know a friend who ordered a merc, passed away before the car came here. all the models you’ve discussed, are new first editions / generations thereby you never know, even the Toyota can end up with some drastic defect later, again one thing is for certain, maintenance costs will increase, basically what you are looking for .....suv, runs cheap, breaks less, sell for same or profit.... It’s not going to happen mate, by the looks of it you are not a car guy, like most here in a way your post sorta offends the average petrol head, So in your stance my advice would be this, buy the cheapest off the lot, Save the rest Definitely buy brand new. Maintain with whatever you can afford. as for resale, pray. And pls INSURE the car or your math will go to waste.

  12. There's no need to match the local temp range I think, something in the middle like 5W30 would provide better protection under harsh conditions of SL roads IMO I remember @iRage offering an explanation about this: So, since thermal absorption is a higher priority than extremely cold (like 0 deg celcius or less ambient temp) start flow rate for us Sri Lankans I guess an oil like 5W30 would be a better choice, especially since turbocharged engines run hotter than NA ones. Even the turbo version of the WagonR recommends 5W30.

  13. You can't predict for another 5 years.Look what happen to the second hand market when raize was introduced suddenly. What if toyota decided to release a better one in the coming years.raize hype will be gone and you loose anyway. If you want to minimize the loss then go with toyota.

  14. Well you need not worry about DCT transmission or GDI engine related issues in the first 5 years of ownership since it is covered by KIA warranty. And as @matroska mentioned since you are buying from the agent you will not be stranded where there is only the expensive route to take. If the engine or the gearbox are found to cause issues in Sri Lankan conditions as with how certain models proved to be (Montero, Vezel etc); then what will affect you is resale value, when you try to sell off the vehicle where a lot of negative reputation would surround the particular model. The GDI engine and DCT combined would possibly give higher performance and better fuel figures than the Vitara, MG and Raize etc. But, if it will actually return 13 km/l in the city is for an actual owner to comment. But, bringing in the vehicle to the agent during the warranty period is not a bad thing isn't it? Most of the agents do the maintenance work free of charge during the warranty I guess. On top of that, they would surely perform a better job than most of the average garages you find. But, of course it will be troublesome if you are residing in an area which does not have a KIA service center

  15. No, even the 2016/17 facelift had an automatic transmission (for the 1600CC version). The only major mechanical difference made since 2007 was the engine upgrade they did in 2012 (4A91 to 4A92) few minor differences were made along with the engine change: the exhaust was redesigned: 4A91 Exhaust: 4A92 exhaust: EPS was replaced by HPS. I've heard that the exhaust manifold is also different, no idea what the difference is

  16. I've noticed these cars have a loss in power by like 80000km Probably some neglect in maintenance I've noticed this in 3 vehicles from the same generations, hope an owner can drop in more details
