  1. Servicing the EC: The DIY job I thought of sharing my experiences of DIY job of servicing the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Changing oil Tools you need to do this Job 1. 17 mm socket : To remove the oil draining nut 2. Oil filter removal tool : 68 mm 14 flute (Cap type)Ratchet 3. 10 mm socket: To remove engine cover : Bottom 4. Ratchet 5. Torque wrench: Handy to have it 6. Hydraulic Jack 7. A set of Vehicle stands Make sure to run the vehicle for at least 5 minutes before servicing Jack up the vehicle: Hint: Be mindful about the Jack up position Support the Jacked up vehicle using two vehicle stands: Safety first Remove the bottom cover of the engine: There are 4 screws (10 mm) and 4 plastic fasteners need to be removed. I hate removing plastic fasteners. Anyways, if you get it done in a service station there is a quite a chance to loose these nuts or break Unscrew the oil filler cap Unscrew the oil draining nut: 17 mm. Make sure to keep a container on the ground to collect waste oil. Once oil is drained: unscrew the filter using the filter remover tool. After all old oil is drained screw (install) the new filter You have two choices of filters, either go for the Genuine Filter made by Tokyo Roki (Mitsubishi Part number MD360935) or VIC C-415 Filter. The same filter is used for Mazda too. However, I am really skeptic about the VIC filters as I bought a VIC filter for my EC some time ago (around 3 months). When I checked that before installing I noticed that the filter body is corroded (see the figure below). Without taking a risk for a narrow margin I thought of going for the Genuine Filter (VIC : around Rs. 1000, Genuine for UM: Rs. 2,200.00) Before installing the filter, apply a layer of engine oil on to the rubber gasket of the filter also clean the surfaces filter mount. When tightening the oil filter, make sure not to over tighten it. What I usually do is tighten using the hand until the gasket (rubber seal) get contacted well. Put a mark on the filter using tip-ex. Tighten ¾ round ( or one round ), such a way that the white-dot made by tip-ex, travels ¾ round (or one round). Tighten back the oil draining nut. It is recommended to use a new washer with when re-using the nut, however I could not find it in the market L. Tighten the nut for around 39 Nm (anyways, do not over-tighten if you do not have a torque wrench). I am using my torque wrench adapter for that !!! Now we are set to refill the oil. I use Valvoline Full Synthetic OW-20 (Rs. 6400) Pour oil in: Using a funnel to ensure you don't spill oil on the engine hood. If you do spill any oil, be sure to clean it up with a cloth or paper towel. Pour around 3.5 L and check out the dip-stick oil level (I must say, its really difficult to see the oil level using the Mitsu dipstick especially with new oil) If the oil level is in-between min-max, crank the engine and run for couple of minutes. After that, re-check the oil level in the dip-stick and Keep adding small amounts of oil and re-checking with the dipstick until the oil level is between the markers. Once you're happy, close the oil filter cap. check the oil draining nut and the oil filter for any leaks. Fix the engine bottom cover, and close the hood. Better check the oil level in the very next day!!!!! Cleaning the air filter Remove the air-filter and clean any dirt using the vacuum cleaner. Make sure to pass (suck air) from air input side of the filter (bottom). If the air filter is too dirty, replace with the new one (Around Rs. 7000.00, the Genuine one) Check the level of coolant. Check the level of coolant (mine, coolant level dropped to min after running 10,000 km), top-up coolant to max level using Mistsubishi Super Long Life Coolant (premium), around Rs. 3000 for 4 liters) Other things……. Clean/replace the cabin filter Check the conductivity of brake fluid using a brake fluid tester ( you can import one from Ebay) Using a good flashlight, check for any leaks, damages to boots, loosening of nuts. Check the air pressure of 4 tires Rotate tires once in 8000 – 10000 km. I do it by myself, hydraulic Jack and two-vehicle supports are sufficient to do this job. Tighten lug-nuts to 98 Nm. Check the level of Battery water: Though its very difficult to do this J due to the placement of the battery in a very difficult to reach the place. Enjoy the EC for another 5000 km J (of course, make regular check-ups of oil level, coolant level)

  2. I believe that is Sabir's car....really nice guy...he had quite a few emotional journeys with a few conversions and finally got that beauty up. Yes...Tourer V conversions are a thing in SL. Check on the SL JZ clubs on FB and Instagram. There are about 7 conversions now and a few more on its way. To be honest...I believe you have a better chance of finding a Chaser/Cresta/Mark II in better and honest shape than an Allion/Premio/Axio/etc....people who bought most of them bought it for the car and not for a cheap ride and resale value. As I said..mechanical parts are easy to find...body and interior parts are a bit difficult. But with allthese conversions taking place that too seems to be changing a these guys bring down entire cars stripped from Japan...so body parts of Avantes and Grandes seem to be floating around amongst these groups. Look out for the next Top Gear SL magazine. They have a feature on the X chassis conversions in SL. Factory manual cars are really rare and actually go for quite high prices compared to automatics.

  3. I take my car to L*l Alawa*ta Associates for servicing. They don't wash the vehicle. Their job seems to be much better than most of the service stations. All oil changes, filter changes, brake cleaning and adjustments etc done by mechanics under the supervision of Mr.L*l Alawa*ta. Another important thing is that they don't try to sell things unnecessarily. For example all other service stations change the oil filter every 5000 kilometres. But in this place they change oil filter once in 10000 kilometres which is similar to local agents do.

  4. Same, an actual Evo X is cheaper than a potential conversion. Maybe we would see some Evo X conversions in another 5-10 years (if petrol prices are still affordable)

  5. Imagine having a Supra and the RMV buggers forget the '2' in 2JZ so now you have JayZ himself enslaved in your bonnet.

  6. Well you need not worry about DCT transmission or GDI engine related issues in the first 5 years of ownership since it is covered by KIA warranty. And as @matroska mentioned since you are buying from the agent you will not be stranded where there is only the expensive route to take. If the engine or the gearbox are found to cause issues in Sri Lankan conditions as with how certain models proved to be (Montero, Vezel etc); then what will affect you is resale value, when you try to sell off the vehicle where a lot of negative reputation would surround the particular model. The GDI engine and DCT combined would possibly give higher performance and better fuel figures than the Vitara, MG and Raize etc. But, if it will actually return 13 km/l in the city is for an actual owner to comment. But, bringing in the vehicle to the agent during the warranty period is not a bad thing isn't it? Most of the agents do the maintenance work free of charge during the warranty I guess. On top of that, they would surely perform a better job than most of the average garages you find. But, of course it will be troublesome if you are residing in an area which does not have a KIA service center

  7. Nope the engine code would be 4B11T then, but you never know with RMV buggers, maybe someone forgot the "T"

  8. No, even the 2016/17 facelift had an automatic transmission (for the 1600CC version). The only major mechanical difference made since 2007 was the engine upgrade they did in 2012 (4A91 to 4A92) few minor differences were made along with the engine change: the exhaust was redesigned: 4A91 Exhaust: 4A92 exhaust: EPS was replaced by HPS. I've heard that the exhaust manifold is also different, no idea what the difference is

  9. Could be ... However when i took a report for my 2012 GP1 in 2018 it still had 75% which as you mentioned is the highest as it can get. What's the YOM and Mileage?

  10. Well Kia do offer a 5 year warranty so it's not "this is a grey import you're on your own" territory ?‍♂️

  11. Yes the vitara has very low fuel figures, probably maybe coz it doesnt have cvt or dct, just a conventional auto transmission. Just for discussion Were all dcts that bad? Vezel yes, previous merc cla yes, Xtrail yes But Honda grace I've not seen cases.

  12. Went to see the KIa stonic the basic one was not there the full option 5.4, and looked at from the out side looks ok. But was worried about the DCT gears and Kia said it does 13 in the city ??? the other 3 cylinder Suzuki vitara does 7.5 the warranty means you must bring it to kia motors for every little thing otherwise the warranty will be null and void.

  13. As per the scan report IMA Battery Usable Capacity is 75%. That means the battery is in very good condition as per this report. Most probably the previous owner has replaced the hybrid battery since this battery is having the maximum usable capacity in terms of a IMA hybrid battery. Was this scan report obtained from the agents? If you trust this report there doesn't seem to be any issues related to the hybrid battery. What's the manufacture year of this GP1? When it comes to the condition of the car; a scan report alone is not sufficient to tell that. You will need to go on a test drive and see how it drives, check if the previous owner has maintained and serviced the car regularly (see records), condition of body panels to see is there are any bad accident repair jobs, suspension noises, tire condition and since this is GP1 be sure to check if this has the famous oil burn issue So, if the above criteria are up to your satisfaction the car would be in good condition. Since, you are talking about a used car there would be some sort repairs that you will have to do eventually

  14. 1. Yes, the red dot takes precedence over the yellow dot. 2. If you did a wheel balance, it doesn't matter now. The dots are there so that you have a good starting balance. This helps because the number of wheel weights that need to be added to balance the wheel is less. 3. If the valve stem isn't damaged and doesn't leak, keep it.

  17. Greetings gents, So I got my ABS issue sorted today. It took longer than I expected as the package got caught in the Christmas season rush. Finally the sensor arrived last week and got it fixed at my local mechanic. A very big thanks to @Hyaenidae for finding this sensor online. And also @trinity for your valuable advices as always. If it wasn’t for you guys I would have spent a thumping amount for a tiny sensor. So the timeline of finding the sensor Unimo- quoted 32k Place in pitakotte-25k Place in panadura-15k Ebay-6k (with shipping) Finally took a risk and settled with eBay seller for an OEM sensor ( Mitsubishi part no- 4670A576) and have to say that the risk payed off. No more ABS indicators and ABS kicks in as expected. Happy happy..Managed to grab some pics.

  18. Members, I received under by Email. Tesla Model S Sales Much Higher Than Similarly Priced Cars from Mercedes, BMW, & Audi May 18, 2013 Nathan It’s near impossible to deny the success that Tesla Motors has been having as of late. The Model S has been selling extremely well. Its stock has been climbing to new heights, it has turned a profit, it has announced that it will be repaying its DOE loan five years early, and the company is gearing up for the release of several new models over the next few years. And now, new data from LMC Automotive is providing a good visual for that success — showing that Tesla’s Model S is selling considerably better than similarly priced cars from Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. During the first quarter of this year, the Tesla Model S sold better than “any of the similarly priced gasoline-powered cars from the top three German luxury brands, according to data from LMC Automotive.” Roughly 4,750 people bought a Model S EV, compared to the 3,000 or so that bought Mercedes’ top-level sedan. Obviously, though, this isn’t an exact comparison. As CNN Money notes: “Actual selling prices for the Mercedes S-class sedan start toward the upper end of the Tesla Model S price range, according to the auto pricing Web site TrueCar.com, while prices for the other cars are at the lower end. And nobody gets a $7,500 federal tax credit for a buying an S-class or an A8. Also, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi each sell a full range of cars and SUVs while Tesla buyers have only one model to choose from.” Regardless of any of that, though, it’s an impressive feat — Tesla has carved itself out a significant chunk of the market in just a decade. With the release of its SUV — the Model X — next year and the release of its more-affordable 4th production model sometime around 2017, the future looks very bright for the company. In related news, Tesla’s Model S was recently called “possibly the best car that we have ever tested” by Consumer Reports — achieving a score of 99/100. The only other car to achieve such a high score was the Lexus LS460 back in 2009. The only criticism was the inability to drive extremely long distances without recharging or being able to recharge very quickly on such a drive. Sylvi Wijesinghe.

  19. 'TaSh', Yes you have to be a member then you may get a reduced rate Once I got a car down from Hambanthota sending a breakdown truck to Colombo by a private person he charged me only Rs.10000.00.I think that is the stranded rate. AS the insurance company recommended him to me. Charges may differ according to distance. Sylvi Wijesinghe.
