  1. Have few small updates on some new additions I made to the car. She didn't have door visors when I bought her and the window tint was badly faded. So got the windows tinted with 3M film and was able to import near genuine looking set of visors thanks to a friend of mine who is also a car addict. Did another small change, the B pillar area of the doors were in the original body colour and I did not like it at all. So got it blacked out as well. Here are the photos. Before installing the visors and getting the tint done. The visors and plus the tint. As you can see I didn't go for a dark tint, instead opted for a lighter one which cuts out the heat. Also this way visibility during the night time is also not compromised. I removed the seat covers which was there when I bought the car as the were worn out. And got a interior cleaned (there were not much to clean though). All these were done during June 2019.

  2. Hi Everyone, Thought to start this topic to keep a record on maintenance and repairs if any. The car referred here is my Lancer EX (for those who don't know) and the details of it could be found here. I bought the car just about an year ago with a mileage of 108000kms on it clock. Car had all following things done at 94000kms when I bought it. 1.Replaced all four shocks and dampers. 2.Engine Tuneup plus new plug set. 3.Alternator Belt replaced. 4.New tires installed. 5.New Battery installed. 6.Fron RHD bearing replaced. 7.Auto Gear Oil Changed. All the above except for the battery had been done at the agent (Unit#d Mot#rs). When I bought the car, I didn't have anything to do actually. Feel lucky about this and thankful to the previous owner. (Maybe a merit of selling my previous car in the same condition) Anyways, I'll list down the repairs/maintenance the car underwent during my ownership along with the details of pricing and all. All you guys of the Lancer EX Auto Lanka fraternity, please feel free to use this thread to share details of repairs & running maintenance of your cars as well.

  3. Toyota Vitz 2016 2017 till 19 Well I’m not going to get too technical or sound like the fan club here But it’s a long story. Despite being a popular car, it’s a very bland machine, but has its perks Hence they are like the cockroaches of the current car scene. The car is so popular at the moment that I have seen 2 instances unregistered cars were exchanged for money for the market value and for lands, for debts etc. between businessmen as they considered the vitz to be equal to money in the bank. Well as for my Vitz tale, I purchased a car, yes full cash deal, wife went crazy over it, found the mileage was tampered Raised hell, returned the car, cash refunded got another car used it for 3months, saw a better car being imported , exchanged mine a small loss during the whole sales dip this year, got the new car cheap. so lost a few, gained a few. So tasted both waters 2016 and post facelift 2019 So the popular grades in Sri Lanka are the F and Fm being the entry level , not heard of a U grade car, There is a Gr or an Rs here, not sure and a proper Hybrid Yaris from Australia with a known gent The F has a Start stop model, with a pretty led display and rpm gauge Fm has no power Mirrors and has window winders in the back, and no rear wiper Mostly all these are 1000cc 1KR powered Lesson learnt, Do a through check on auction records prior to purchase of a car, I caught my cars issue through the Jevic reading, it had done 88000km, 2 auction sheets one with the altered odo and the other with the real odo, car read 34000 odd km, and boy it looked new, brand new My trusty mechanic couldn’t tell it was run either. Tyres matched blah blah, they played the game well, do note I will not reveal the seller as post conflict he took the car and refunded every cent, only thing I lost there was about a week of my time. So the vitz is a properly beat up car in Japan, so most here are too good to be true, heavily run. Always secondly go for a Toyota Lanka Inspection even if it’s a car off the factory, just to be safe Exterior Well the basic frame and shape has been here since the 2011 model, but is the 1000cc tax cut that made these models common here, it’s a good looking layout true, Personally I feel the 2016 model looked better and the 2017 odd models look like a scary grandma on the front, the rear looks cool, Especially if you got the led package, it looks like an audi, Headlights are either h4 halogen, horrible or the lovely leds with auto dipping and levelling. The styles are different with the years Also the bumpers are far more securely fastened in the 2017 facelift models but still they tend to hang front and rear both after going in our pillaged roads. So for those with that ocd, it’s never ending, I have it and I know, took apart 3 bumpers, the clips are pristine, the bulk of the bumper and humping the pot holes make them warp a few mm, so u have a noticeable panel gap on the sides. The tail gate is very well thought after, they open with like minimal protrusion from the bumper length, maybe 1 foot at most, and doors open very wide, and easily, handles and mirrors are shared across the whole Toyota line. Mirrors are kinda wide for a small car, so they ding up easy. Remember to buy a few extra lights. Interior, again no ,major difference between the 2016 and post facelift model, just a change in colour schemes, grey to gloss black, jewela had the fancy colors The 2015 model the air vents were different, thereafter they landed with axio style propeller like vents, which break very easy, Do note the multifunction wheel buttons are original in the car only if it has the 6 speaker sound system. The swap is very easy, 20min job cost about 10000lkr, but with Chinese parts, the replacement Chinese ribbons last only few 1000km and show airbag lights. Oem parts cost 80000 odd (may vary) the 6 speaker (tweeter) Seats, Nicely contoured, bit hard, bland fabrics, front headrests are sown into the seat bulk up to the f grades, there are many variations on the vitz line, so nothing is certain. Dealer level upgrades and variations as well There is space, even when you are 120kg The double din gap and the steering wheel I find well designed and well placed, giving it a bit of a dynamic vibe, the rest of the dash is like the designer sketched the aqua dashboard in a hurry. The gauge cluster in the f grade is really dated but does it’s thing ok, nothing to be happy there unless you get the f smart stop or a bigger engine. Most cars here do not have climate control, despite it being fossil parts, it works well, keeps the region cool, yes you loose a bit of low end power and ears hurt a bit more. Light colored roof liner, headrests in the rear, typical Toyota stuff. Leg room is ideal for the size, The door cards and dashboard remind you of a plastic dustbin though, they scratch like a lottery and love dust. Cargo area, quite large actually. Can accommodate the luggage of like 4, seats 4 easy, if you go 5 you gotta be closely related and malnourished. Below the cargo deck there is either a useless puncture kit or a space saver wheel, kit varies with car so I suggest a spare wheel. The jack is hidden under the drivers seat, not in the tray, so note that before your curse the fellow who stole the jack during a puncture Engine and drivetrain Yea so the 1000cc agony, no turbo. No isg, just groaning with the cvt box, Well it pulls, after a while, and if you floor it, it can keep up the guy who overtook you for going too slow and showed you the finger, and if you keep flooring it it can shift down and pass him. It’s just slow to respond, but certainly not a crawler, but no race car either. It’s just enough for traffic, feels brisk between 30kmph and 100kmph, thereafter it just sits. It’s the noise, it’s not like this huge engine revving noise, this is like a blown exhaust, leaking cat or a cow giving birth, something, loud and agonizing, the accelerator pedal is very flimsy, no feel, the car responds late to throttle, thereby it’s like asking a question and waiting for an answer. The vibration is more prominent on the 2016 models, the 2017 onwards ones have a completely different gel mount, we ll get to know more as the cars age. They’ve gone really stingy on the sound proofing on the f grade, so it’s like only 50% sound proof thanks to the engine. Cold starts give you the creeps, it’s that noisy, Reminds you of a 90s elf. So in Japan cars come with 0w20 oil, here Toyota recommends 10w30, there’s 5w30 as well so pick your poison, parts are cheap, the oil change costs between 10k to 16k depending on the joint, with genuine parts and synthetic oil. Approx 3.2l You shouldn’t be driving a car if you don’t know the intervals, Tip- almost all new jdm cars have a sticker under the hood, with oil change spec, so start translating oil change costs like 16k, agents can handle and recommended, at 40000km PCV valves get clogged easily, so keep an eye, same goes for the throttle body. The handling is really nice, feels a bit like a hot hatch (before you start cursing just the HANDLING) , but there is zero compromise on the comfort, it’s sedan matching comfort in a cheap hatch, in local context that’s my bottom line here. Road noise is very poorly insulated, has the pathetic dying bird horn, Usually the 14 tyres are chunky, so manage to cushion even more, The ground clearance is PATHETIC, so unless careful, it rubs everywhere, a good option is to fit mudflaps, they make a noise so you won’t bottom it out suddenly The front lip is more or less a sacrificial element, or a painters monthly allowance if you are conscious about the car They have had no concern on driveways and steep descents when they sketched that. As I write this, my car has been parked for 2 weeks as they’ve started meddling with the road. It can manage long journeys with comfort if you have a good stereo and if you drive “Normal” Do note road presence is less, so from biker to bus driver, no one gives a damn and tend to abuse you, being the small car slogan now. Turning radius is like a bicycle, so cops will start to smile while they write you up when you do that illegal U turn Fuel economy is like 11kmpl in traffic, my first Vitz did 18kml in the highway, yet to test the new car, 92Oc is specced, Toyota Safety Sense Impressive bit of tech here, extremely intelligent, doesn’t try to kill you, warns many times before braking, lane Change assist, auto wipers and headlights work very well, I’m sure the high beam algorithm was programmed by a very polite Japanese gent as it never sets high beams, even when it’s needed, good stuff. Pointers not to get yourself screwed Carry a spare wheel Do not go off road, steep slopes and avoid bigger potholes, and rocks on the road, you will feel the impact on your groin and pain on the wallet. If you do well you ll need a new sump or a bellhousing Don’t over load the car. Try to upgrade to factory multifunction steering, or don’t 92 is enough Jewela is just a trim level, gaudy with chrome Avoid FM models, they are like lorries, and used for mostly cargo and deliveries all over Mileage is almost always faux, get a personal import or a TL verified car Or just be very very very thorough, jump all the hoops when buying one.   4. What denote by Lancer CS Model Code??? Recently I saw a very rare CS3 unit at Unit#d Mot#rs. It was a 2008 CS3 with Automatic Transmission BUT WITHOUT TIPTRONIC . This is the very first such CS3 unit I saw manufactured in 2007-2011. When I observe the model code of the car, I feel it is automatic transmission with CVT . I checked sales catalogs and checked few car numbers with RMV app. This is what I found /guess . (This is purely based on export models. Seems CS2 units have some other letters on same positions but I cannot find the meaning) Position : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Example Model Code : C S 1 A S R J E R First two positions are CS in all CS models. If third position 1 --> 1300cc engine If third position 2 --> 1500cc engine If third position 3 --> 1600cc engine After that AS is common for 4th and 5th positions. After that 6th position ; If 6th position ‘N’ – Manual Transmission If 6th position “R” – Automatic Transmission (Including Tiptronic for 1600cc) If 6th position ‘T’ – Automatic Transmission with CVT If 7th Position is “J” – Trim Level is "GLX" If 7th Position is “D” - Trim Level is "GL" 8th Position is “E” is common. (I guess for exports, not sure) If 9th Position is "R" – Right hand driven If 9th Position is "L" – Left hand driven Between 8th position and L/R - If ‘Q’ present , Euro 2 / Step 2 Emission Regulations (Example : EQR) Between 8th position and L/R - If ‘B’ present , Leaded Models (Example: EBR) Special Note: All 'GL' units are equipped with 1300cc engines (All GL units are CS1).   5. They do it as a harmless upgrade but as you know the genuine parts cross 60k and this 10k at the most, so they ask a popular car audio joint to do the fix. Big time installers; do even 100 cars a day, Theres no way the car came with the 4 speaker trim and the multifunction wheel. Go check the vitz fb club, so many stories of these ribbons popping nothing new. There are sellers separately selling the oem multifunction kit plus pillar speakers for a true conversion costing over 60k again

This was some time ago, the car was about 3yr old when this happened: When rear brake drums were removed at the routine sevice it was revealed that one wheel cylinder has developed a minute leak from a rubber boot. UNIMO guys assured that it is negligible but I decided to get it fixed before the leak gets worse. Both rubber boot kits (left and right wheels) were replaced. Part: CUP+BOOT KIT, RR BRAKE CYL Part number: 4610A078 Labor Cost: Part Cost: (2 boot kits) Total : Rs. 6106.00 Both brake cylinders were bone dry on the last routine service (4th service since the repair) so the repair was a success ?

  7. my toyota airbag ECU was replaced at toyota lanka due to a recall last week(free of charge). The person who handled my documentation said that they have list of chassis no.s sent to them some of which are 121s and they cannot find the current owners . So please give your chassis no and check with them whether you are eligible for a free replacement

  8. Nothing is wrong with the Soul. In many markets it is liked as a quirky little hatch/MPV/thingy. Its just that in Sri Lanka it does not give the average Sri Lankan car buyer any eroticism to get excited about 1.6L engine = end of the world...don't you know anything more than 1.5L is going to drink petrol !!! You got to be stupid to buy anything more than 1.5L if it is NOT hybrid Korean = No market noh ? Design = look at it....its not a Jip....so what is the point ? Might as well go for a hatchback like a Vitzy....

  9. Yes...there are a few gasolines out there...but most have gone for the Hybrid because it is cheaper. The HRV which the agents sells is also NON DCT. Everything is always repairable. It depends on if you are willing to spend on it and how much of money you are willing to put in. Where Hybrids are concerned....90% of the Hybrids are bought by cheapsters who want to just use a flashy car for dirt cheap with next to nothing maintenance and repairs and then sell it for the same price they bought it for. So any kind of repair..they diss the car and call it bad and run away from it. The DCT issue is totally based on how the car is used. The style of traffic flow in Colombo, where one has to do a slow creep for prolonged periods of time (as opposed to proper accelerations and stops) does not favor the DCT. So...the risk of DCT failure is directly proportional to the amount of creep driving you do.

Well..to be fair..he is not saying that he cannot maintain it due to funds....but wouldn't you agree that the ribbon for 60,000 is a bit excessive and its best to look for alternatives before jumping into it ? To be fair....our RAV4 needed the spiral cable replacement. It was to be replaced under a recall, which my dad did not know and ended up paying. He did not get the OEM one because it looked cheap and questionable apparently, so went to Toyota Lanka and paid nearly 40,000LKR for the entire job out of which 7000ish was for labor ? So the cable alone was 30,000ish (at the time the cable was 12500yen in Japan and and exchange rate was about 1.35ish ? so TL's margin was nearly 100% (it was a non multifunction steering wheel) In this case..looking at the parts catalog...the spiral is 12960yen and the spiral with sensors (for multi-function) was 25,350yen. SO at the current exchange rate that comes to about 42,000. So if the labor was 7500....we are looking at 50Kish in cost plus a 10K markup by Toyota (there is a reason for this which you cannot blame them for either and is the consequence of having the market flooded with cheap OEM parts)

Thank you for the comment buddy.The Point i would like to highlight is certain things in toyota lanka are over priced.I'll comply with mods decision whether to delete or not.You may drive a bentley,but mind you most of the people in this country are in middle class.Spending 60,000Rs for a depreciating asset is not worthy while Japanese recondition parts are available.Mark my words Buddy,Never look down upon another person who is in trouble as what goes around will be coming around at one day or other.

  12. Customs FOB value for the S-T grade is JPY 1,880,000.00 (Approx Rs. 3.1 mil). For the G-T grade customs value is JPY 2,080,000. (Approx Rs. 3,5 mil). Hence if the vehicle buying price is less than 3.5 mil, then there is no luxury tax. Lets say your vehicle CIF is JPY 2.2 mil (Approx Rs. 3,650,000), Then you have to pay Rs. 150,000 as luxury tax. According to the current exchange rate any vehicle CIF above JPY 2.1 mil subject to luxury tax. This is applicable for Allion Premio also.

  16. Hope you’ll receive it soon without getting delayed due to seasonal postal rush. Talking about ABS, my Lancer CS didn’t come with it. Drove it for 9 years, had some close calls also, but luckily managed to get the car stopped without crashing every time. In the EX, I was able to avoid two collisions mostly due to ABS doing its job. First one was when I was tailgating a friend of mine doing around 80 (this is something I usually don’t do but we were running late at that day and I was about to overtake him) he suddenly braked to avoid hitting a dog. I too slammed on the brakes and fortunately the car stopped within about a feet to my friends car. The next one was to save a motorbike guy who rode across galle road at a junction without bothering to stop to check the oncoming traffic. That basterd might have been drunk or something, narrowly escaped his death.. So get the brakes fixed soon. Good that the car is not a daily runner, you never know what awaits you in the next corner..

  17. 3. Gear Oil Change and Tuneup (December 2019) So by first week of December 2019, the car had reached the mileage of 134,000kms. Which means it was the time for me to change the gear oil and get the tuneup done. The recommended interval for the tuneup is every 20k kms however. Though company records I got to know that the petrol filter of the car had not been changed until now. So I had to change it as well. The recommended interval to change the filter is every 60k kms. I bought the parts and oil from Unit#d Mot#rs and got the job done at my trusted mechanics place as doing this at the company going to cost me my both nuts. Parts alone cost me just over 42k. Following are the details of the parts and Prices. Filter kit Part No - 1770A270 Price - Rs.28,552.17 Injector O rings (8Nos) Part Numbers - 1465A308 & 1465A094 (4 from each) Total Price - Rs4,646.96 ATF - Mitsubishi Diaqueen ATF SP3 5L Price Rs.8,252.15 The prices above are excluding the VAT. New patrol filter unit The filter consists of two filtering units. One is cylindrical part which you can seen in the first photo above and the second one is somewhat looks like a weird shaped tea bag. You can see it in the second photo. That's the bottom of the fuel filter. You can see the dirt which the 95 Octane petrol carry. Thats above is the secondary filter which I referred as the tea bag. This is the removed cylindrical filter unit.

  18. With a 1.2 you get the full value for your permit as the tax is 3.85 million and the permit is only 3.6 million. If you go for a 1.5 gasoline Axio the tax will be very high and not worth it. There was a 1.3 gasoline Axio but it is not as good to drive, not that economical and probably has a lower 2nd hand market.

  19. Yes, get it diagnosed. Address the problem displayed in the scanner. Take it to the agent as they'll be able to pinpoint the issue with their proprietary diagnostic tools.

  22. Mods please feel free to remove this if it's against forum guidelines but i really have to say this. Why did you buy a car if you cannot afford to replace small components like an airbag clock spring. Live within your means man. Also check Taiyo at mount they may have.
