  1. I don’t know what you are saying as 15-18kmpl (town, outstation or highway). For town limits, unless you travel in mid night, those figures are just a wish. A hybrid might be able to give those figures in short distances, but not in heavy traffic. Now there is a huge popularity for Raize, but would give you 1-2 more kmpl than your Swift(or maybe similar). Still it’s early to predict on their characteristics as the car is yet to be imported. Vitara would be out of your league as it has the same engine on a heavier vehicle which would give lower figures for FC. Then you are left aside with SL typical car buyers’ favorite cars. Allion and Premio. A 2013-2015 one can be grabbed in the given price bracket, where 90% of them being owned by permit holders. So most of them might be well taken care of. Better to go for less mileage one. Fuel figures totally depend on the driving style. I manage to squeeze out 20.X kmpl average figures (according to the trip computer) when traveling at 12-2 AM with a light foot recently. When traveling to places like Matara, using the highway, gives an average around 18kmpl for the whole journey (60% highway travel). With stop an go heavy traffic the figure might drop around 10-12 kmpl. For normal journeys with mild traffic with a distance of 60-70km, expect around 15kmpl. All those figures are based on the car’s on board trip computer and pumping 95. Most of the time I drive with an extremely light foot. It’s not a car to be driven enthusiastically, since on the corners, being ponderous and floaty. Still, it gives what Toyota is better doing at. Comfort and Reliability. For long journeys they outshine all the others from the same category with ample space, soft suspension, low road noise and ion generating AC. So it’s totally upto your decision. Else you can go for a hybrid like the new ugly AF Prius?

  2. What is the economy you get now, what type of driving conditions None of the cars I have/ had done that economy in town including GP5 (10-12kmpl), Wagon R (12-14kmpl) My BIL does not drive in heavy traffic gets 13-14 kmpl on his Swift RS 2017 If you want unregistered only car I could think will be a Wagon R or a similar Kei car for your budget. Calculate and see how much you're going to save a month it may be few thousand rupees unless you are a sales person or a taxi Ydriver who does 5-6K a month. You have one of the best cars in this price bracket and will definitely regret selling it

  3. This is a limitation of honda dual-clutch single-motor hybrid system. When vehicle creeping slowly, engine cannot spin motor-generator fast enough to charge the battery.

  4. So then shouldn't a Toyota of some description be your primary choice? or else if on a budget something from Suzuki?

  5. She is still a rookie driver. She lacks space time awareness which is common for most of the womenfolk. Anyhow, I also have the same question in my head, which will never get a proper answer. I have a dash-camera installed in the car, unfortunately, I disconnected it the day before when cleaning the car and forgot to plug it back, or could have checked it to understand what actually happened. P.S Women does not understand how much men treasure their metallic pets. To date, Im still saddened about what happened but I dont see it in her.

  6. Typical belief: Super petrol = Super performance, neh? My old maths sir used to pump 95 in his 110cc scooter saying it increases mileage & performance. Can't lecture my maths sir now can I?

  7. Due to existing tax structures what you get unreg are mostly small turbo charged engines. These are NOT fuel efficient as hybrids and will not get you 15-18 KMPL. I really don't think the Raize will get you those fuel figures either. As for the Honda Fit - Honda unveiled the new Fit - read 'Japanese Car news' Thread by Irage. Dude - just asking : why would you pump 95 On an Allion?

  8. dude! you should see the road that leads to my house it's an unpaved gravel road which was fine but then a new house was constructed and the trucks damaged the road and then there were rains so now that road is basically an off road track and yet i manage fine - The Kandalama lake bunt - that's a bit of a b#### isn't it - been there in my Fit did you scrape the bottom there? Or can it be negotiated with a bit of slow driving? One place I know for sure the car will not be able to handle is that pit-like car park near SLECC and I've never gone there. I saw a Mazda 6 get scraped coming out of it - it wasn't pleasant.

  9. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Daihatsu....in Japan Daihatsu is the highest selling kei car manufacturer and they have been so for a long time. They have not made any large cars for awhile as they just borrowed the large cars from Toyota. In Sri Lanka, Daihatsus were given a bad name thanks to the car salesmen (parts naha...pickup madi..etc...stories) and in all fairness some models (not all) did not fair too well under local conditions, but even then I do believe it was mostly the little Charade (the 90s and 2000s one). But that was pretty much a failed model everywhere in the world. But cars like the Tanto and the Terios were pretty decent (except the latter was blacklisted by Sri Lankans because it did not do like 15kmpl with a 1.5L engine). THey did not have the refinement of larger brands like Toyota's starlet,Nissan's march, etc...but they were pretty good for what they were.

  10. Oh yes. Their yard is humungous, you gotta see it to believe it. He has a petrol station, 2 big scrapyards, a windscreen house, accident repair facility, paint shop & his own race team. When I went there to get a coolant hose, I was getting frustrated of waiting for the guy who took my sample to show up. Later I got up & went inside to see him, in the middle of a big pile of coolant hoses, trying to find one that matches mine? I saw three M13 & 2 M15 engines when roaming there too. I'm sure you will find the stuff. Good luck!

  11. if an 'SUV' is what you have in mind just wait until the car actually gets here - from what pics I saw the interior is actually smallish. I get your dilemma - there could be a tax-hike and you want to secure the car ASAP but it's 5 Mil we're talking about so better wait till a few units get here and you have an actual look at it. Also turbo charged small engines are not that fuel efficient (CHR,MG Zs, Civic etc)

  12. Oh sorry, I might have overlooked it. But isnt Daihatsu also Japanese? Since its a Toyota subsidiary, what makes them inferior to Toyotas? @TDS Suggest considering Vitara as an option if you are really looking for a SUV type of vehicle. I fully understand your situation as you are going to invest your hard earned money for your first car. I went through the same dilemma couple of months back. To be honest, I myself would have considered Vitara if I knew well about it before I got my Civic. They both belong to the same price bracket, but Civic has more power and luxury compared to Vitara. Vitara in the other hand has the much needed ground clearance which is critical for Sri lankan conditions (I have already had 3 incidents where bottom of the car got hit, within 4 months since I bought my car). Fortunately or unfortunately Vitara did not appear in any of the discussions I had regarding my hunt for a car. Just sharing my opinion.

  13. The guy started off by saying he does not want a Vitara because of low resale value...which is why I said the whole stories of "no resale market value"is just utter rubbish that is spawned by car salesmen. This is exactly what they said about Mazdas until they started bringing in Hybrid Axelas....this is exactly what they have been saying about Daihatsu's until now when the Daihatsu comes with a Toyota badge on it. Even the Raize does not have parts in SL...so wth ???

  14. ...and another case where the actual use, practicality of the car is overridden by cheap looks and the fuel misers get their hands on it. The thing is...with AWD systems present these days....no one knows that it actually gets used because it is not for just going off road. Average drivers if they have it do use it...it is just they never realize that they do. Even starting off from a stand still at a traffic light the system does kick in...

  15. Hey welcome to the forum. As an ex- GP1 owner I can say it really is a nice car and you get a LOT for what you pay...it has practical written all over it - economical to run as well. at 2.7 it's a steal you can't get that feature set, the practicality for that price - even if you do spend money and fix the oil burn issue. I sometimes still miss my old car BUT this is what's important - you seem to be a car guy and this sort of matters - drive what you like. The FD1 is a different class of car . You are going to enjoy driving this (not that the GP1 is boring to drive ) So here's the thing - why don't you go see both cars for a while try to hitch a good FD1 - keep the GP1 as a backup option if you fail to find a good FD1....give the civic the priority: it's a matter of smiles per liter vs miles per liter. Happy Hunting.
