  1. Yellowing due to UV happens regardless of whether it is directly under the sun or not. It is just a matter of time until the coolant reservoir and windshield reservoirs start to go yellow. It happens on all cars. Not just the EX. I guess it has to do with the construction of the plastic as well. On the EX, maybe the power steering reservoir is more susceptible for UV damage than the other two. In fact, the power steering reservoir used on the EX is a really old design/construction used on the CS and even on the CK Lancer. It maybe even be due to the darker colour of the power steering fluid. The reservoirs on my CS3 were sparkling bright when I bought the car and slightly more yellow after my 7 years of ownership. I had never washed the engine bay or used any harsh chemicals/degreasers on it, and the car was mostly a weekender. Here's an engine bay in relatively good condition 1996 Toyota Corolla:

  2. Great to read on your positive experience in Mira. And also glad to know there are still people out there who think out side of the Box and not living in these echo chambers of Wagon'Rs and Stringray's.

  3. I know this is thread is pretty old, nevertheless going to share my ultra-positive experience on the fuel consumption of the Daihatsu Mira (Toyota Pixis). We had a Peradua Kenari as a 2nd car and it never did more than 10-12km/liter (town running in Kandy). We upgraded the Kenari to a 2016 December Mira in November 2018 and I'm blown away by it's fuel consumption. Even with the usual Kandy traffic, it does 20 km/liter and still above 16 km/l even with really bad traffic. I took a drive to Colombo last weekend mainly to check out its fuel consumption and I was blown away even further! I started with a full tank from Kandy. Till about Pasyala (from Kandy) it averaged over 32 km/liter and by the time I got to my destination in Dehiwala, it had gone down to about 28 km/liter. All these values are based on the fuel consumption gauge on the dashboard. Just to double check that reading, when I came back to Kandy, I pumped fuel again. The whole trip had been 260 km and I pumped 11 liters which gives an average of ~23.5 km/l. This was the total trip from Kandy-Colombo-Kandy. There was plenty of traffic in Yakkala, Kiribathgoda etc. etc. All in all, this was an amazing experience and I love every bit about this car. The technology is just unbelievable and my advice for anyone looking for a car of this size to go with a Mira or Pixis or the like and to avoid 'hybrid' WagonRs and the like at any cost. BTW, before I made up my mind to purchase the Mira, I test drove a WagonR; I won't mention numbers here, but the fuel consumption was nowhere near what I'm getting on the Mira. Amazing car... two thumbs up.. can recommend to anyone looking for high fuel efficiency! Chanaka

  4. Those service guys using high pressure washers on door edges after opening doors and trunk is also not good. They did it to my car two months back and the door sensors stopped working. They started working only after the car was parked for a day under the sun.

  5. I think its better not to use water at all as @Davy said; <4x4 vehicles have a much higher tolerance for water damage than regular road cars, so this example is probably not the best. Another thing is that this is a diesel engine. Petrol engines have high tension leads and ignition coils that are more susceptible to damage. >

  6. After watching some review I thought of giving a try myself.. Don't take seriously, I just did it for fun since I had some extra time. I did not have a script as it was not planned. Missed lot of info but not bad just for fun. Also I only have Windows Movie Maker so not the best editing job. Just watch for fun folks..

  8. UV exposure under the hood? As you can see the PS fluid reservoir has already turned yellow. I'm not sure if it's the plastic material... or the PS fluid itself might be causing this? I'm worried that the coolant reservoir will turn yellow just like the PS fluid one. This happens in all lancer EXs apparently

  11. Yes And worrying about the mileage is like marrying a hooker and trying to figure out how many men she slept with. If you decide to marry a hooker, accept the fact that she's well used and move on.

  12. Thanks a lot everyone for the valuable opinions on helping me out to decide. Was struggling to decide between the new civic hatch and Mazda 3. Finally Mazda won over Honda, however its not a 3. But an Axela 2014. Given the prices these days for 3s, even though I had to spend more for the Axela. Feel its worth it given the options and the fuel figures since I am doing close to 80kms a day. Considered 6 as well, but given the larger size and asking price, and fuel figures gave up the idea. Again thank you everyone for your help, has been following mazda threads for long time old threads on Mazdas from @Supra_Natural, @iRage, @sathyajithj99@Quiet, @Nirosha indeed made me a mazda fan and still learning from your informative posts. Keep up the good work guys.

  13. Three pages? Really?? Okay I think we need to call it quits now. This thread isn't going anywhere. @kaveeshatbd, The forum operates on a strict "no bullshit" motto, so a newbie making questionable comments about a Cefiro isn't the best way to make an entrance here. Don't think members here will respect you just because you did 240 km/h in a car. Respect is earned here by making contributions, respecting senior and long-time members, and by being factual. So if you want to stay here, let's start doing by that OK? Also, long time and trusted members here who have made worthwhile contributions have a higher credibility than some random stranger, so I'm sure everyone here who responded will believe @PreseaLover's word more than yours any day. So just stop trying to justify. What it looks like is that you are trying to do some guerilla marketing here by rambling about how good the Cefiro is and how easily you can find spares for it. The argument @matroska is trying to make is that a modern F1 car has a tiny 1.6L turbocharged engine which is significantly more powerful than a 2L engine say on a Cefiro. So you simply can't say things like "I don't like cars that have smaller engines than 2L because they are less powerful". That's just an ignorant comment to make. Shows you that you don't have even the basic knowledge in how force induction works or even on engines. So OP, let's cut the bullshit now shall we? To all other members who have responded, appreciate if you can be respectful. Not denying that I almost fell off the chair laughing while reading some of the posts. Try to keep things civilised. We've all seen this kind of newbie before.

  14. Last time I checked, MADZ said it is okay to type in Sinhala if you find it difficult to get an idea across in English. I agree and I'm even happy to translate questions to English for those who are unable to read Sinhala. I can add the translation just below the original question itself, given that the original question is clear and concise. This particular thread however, is not solely due to the fact that OP finds it hard to type in English. It's that + assuming that members here have the ability to read their mind and find out what car they're taking about. Judging by the username, I assume it's a Toyota Aqua. How hard is it to type that?

  15. I have to ask, where do you get all this information that you spout so authoritatively? "Honda is not having a good rep regarding engines in resant times" you say, care to provide some sources? Pretty much every engine Honda has made in the last decade or more has been perfectly fine in terms of durability based on any source I can find, maybe you've found different info? The 3 pot is actually quite smooth in use and if you didn't actually know what it was you'd not be able to tell it was different from an average 4 cyl. Honda like most Japanese makers does not adapt a technology until they are quite sure they can make it work reliably, unlike the euros (and especially the VW group). Between the two, I would still bet that the CIvic will be a better long term prospect than any VAG 1.0l turbo.
