  1. I had an egg bun from Pere*a and Sons today. It had a bad taste. Then I had a Maalupaan from Silva and Sons next door. It tasted good. So don't eat egg bun from Pere*a and Sons anymore. I hope you got the analogy.

  2. The GP1 is a very practical fun car to drive. Having owned a GP4 which has the same practicality I can say for what you pay these cars give you a lot of value. Most models have all the modern features, like Cruise, climate control , plenty of storage compartments, auto headlights, rear seats which gives you a lot of ways to arrange (Honda Magic Seats) , Decent pickup and economy etc. Only drawback is the Hybrid battery at this age. The aqua is a highly fuel efficient car but at the same time it takes away the joy of driving a car. The powertrain is very reliable, its quiet ,comfortable. This will also have a negative point having a Hybrid battery and having below average ground clearance. The Vitz is smaller than the other two, a LOT slower, Doesn't have even half of the features the Honda has. On the positive side, you can get one unregistered which will give you worry free ownership for a very long time, it gets above average fuel economy for a non-hybrid car, Its a nice small car for a small family. Very good resale value cause it wont have issues which a hybrid car will have in the long run. Other members can speak for the IST

  3. So it means the wire to airbag is still connected and system is active. You might break the wire if you pull a tight turn. Have it fixed asap. Car designers don't put any component if they are not absolutely necessary. If designers can take away the "Steering Wheel Clock Spring" from a cars original design, it will save a huge cost when mass produced!

  4. Vitz uses 1KR-FE Wigo uses 1KR-VE (higher compression ratio and the same engine as Axia facelift and Bezza) 92 is enough for vitz but not for Wigo

  7. Fuel Economy - Aqua Comfort - Fit Space - nothing can beat the Fit for space and practicality I've had one -sold it 2 months ago and it's like having a station wagon cos you can carry so many things including furniture IMHO in order of preference. 1. Fit : Pros - Ideal all round family car with Lots of options and practicality, space etc. Tough little car with great Value for money. Cons: Check the hybrid battery (no need to be paranoid - when i sold mine it was 6 years old and the battery was still good) The biggest concern is the Oil leaking issue well discussed in the forum do a search and find the affected chassis number range. 2. Vitz : Pros: It's a new car. Cons: Under-powered engine, zero options (not even a tachometer ) uncomfortable seats, 3. Aqua : Pros -good fuel economy Decent space and okish pulling power with the 1.5 L engine. Cons: Battery issues , lot of tampered cars in the market due to the mass-appeal. 4. IST Pros : okish ground clearance. Cons : Overpriced - I really don't get the appeal for this car which is neither here-nor-there. If you're a first-time car buyer and if your car is meant to take you from A-B with 2-3 people and you don't travel much outstation - trips etc and if handling pulling power etc are terms that don't make much sense to you - select an unreg Vitz and take it to To##ta Lanka for an inspection (~5000 LKR) and buy it. If you have a family and kids etc, haul stuff, take a lot of trips etc and you actually enjoy driving - Go for a Fit - you can buy one for cheap (~3.3 M) get it well inspected at Sta###ord motors or the car-checking place in nugegoda including a battery report. If you avoid the chassis numbers affected by the oil leak issue you have a good deal. If you want more info on the fit let me know.

  8. Didn’t mean to discourage you in anyway when I said find the best car. Now that you own it, enjoy the process and have fun. One last thing, try to take things slow and learn as you go. We all think we`ll do this that and the other as soon as we start working on a car, but most initial thoughts turn out to be quite useless and outdated soon (ask me how I know) Good Luck and have fun.!

  10. #4. You won't be able to find chrome bumpers. At least not ones in good condition. Your best bet would be to get your current bumpers chrome plated. Tried this option back in 2004 and I was quoted 8000 per bumper from a couple of places. #9 From the engine bay photo, it looks like the car still has the original copper radiator. Keep it as none of your aftermarket plastic/aluminium radiators will be as good as this one. If there are leaks, repair it. If it uses water, do a flush and fill with coolant. Also, your first priority should be bodywork IMO. Came with chrome fender mirrors. You might be able to find a couple of used ones in Panchikawatte salvage yards if you search a bit. Search the Facebook groups as well. I've seen some swap the original fender mirrors to these plastic ones because the originals mirrors have a spring loaded mount under the fender that corrodes over time and causes the mirror to wobble. Is this a temporary measure? I sure hope so because that is definitely not the way to repair rust. The moisture absorbed into the body filler will cause the metal to rust still. You should take the windscreens out, repair the rust and then seal it if you plan to drive the car until the rest of the work is complete. Also, be careful when you are working around chrome trims and rubber beadings. You have smeared body filler over the windscreen beading and that stuff will not come off easily. Those beadings must be really hard to find nowadays. Back in 2004, the front beading cost 12,000. The rear one cost 4000 or something and the rear quarterpanel glass beadings cost 8000 each. The worst part is that none of them fit like the originals did. So try your very best to protect what is already good on the car as this is not your Toyota Corolla 141 for which you can find parts everywhere. EDIT: I just noticed that this car is still advertised for 2 lakhs in the quick site. Is that ad yours or is it the seller's ad from whom you got it? I still see that Pajero in the background so assuming it's yours? If you bought the car for this price, I'm afraid you could have found an example in much MUCH better condition. I see several other A72 Lancers for sale for around 1.5 and some of them are in better shape.

  11. Hi. I haven't read the thread thoroughly so I don't know if you've bought the car above. I'd advise you to save up a bit a go for a better example. Because once you do all the tinkering, painting and upholstery it easily exceed twice the purchase price at least. Most of these cars have been butchered and abused by 'buying and selling' people So unless its REALLY cheap, keep looking and buy a minter. I know the appeal of doing a project car from ground up, but don't waste your money. Anyway good to see another project thread, for tips and tricks on restoring, look up a project thread I did on an old Triumph on these forums, if its still online.

  13. Sumitomo is the actual manufacturer of Dunlop (and Falken) tyres in Japan. Sumitomos are available in Sri Lanka by the official agent. Unlike other agents, they don't fix tyres for you. You have to buy the tyres and get them fitted elsewhere. However, you will find that they are relatively cheaper compared to big-name brands. The reason for this business model is they are one of the oldest tyre importers to Sri Lanka and they have their shop in Sea Street, Pettah, where no soul can easily reach. 14. Im bumping this thread up due to the plethora of new members who have joined autolanka to look for 1000cc options. Please note that if you are seeking what car to buy advice, please let us know your requirements. An example for a good question is: I am looking to buy a 1000cc hatchback car which can carry 5 family members and I normally drive 500km per month. I prefer good fuel economy but can compromise on comfort. Examples for poor questions are: 1. Should I buy a 1000cc Vitz or Baleno? - no requirements given 2. I need a car that is powerful, good fuel economy, comfortable, cheap to maintain and has good resale value - you cant have everything from one car 3. Should I buy BMW 520D or 318M Sport? - not an apples to apples comparison Also please don't ask us to choose a car for you. You wouldn't ask your friends to choose your life partner. Expect us to give advise to help you choose. At the end, it's your decision. Oh... if you seek our advise, you cant compare that with what car sale guys say. This is like going to a kattadiya to seek treatment for arthritis. If you wish to take kattadiya's treatment, don't come to us.
