  6. Owning a Hybrid does not mean you are spending less buy pumping less fuel. TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is the factor that needs to be considered. Read this research! It analyses why Conventional Petrol Vehicles are still the market leader in terms of TCO even in highly industrialized countries like UK, USA & Japan. Hence in a 3rd world country like SL Petrol Vehicles are still far superior than any other form of technology. Hybrid, PHEV or Electric! Total cost of ownership and market share for hybrid and electric vehicles in the UK, US and Japan

  7. That is rubbish.....which car are you talking about ? Because..it is not valid at all...The Aqua and the Prius have been market leaders in Japan since pretty much the time they were launched. Hybrid models of the Axio, Crown, minivans, etc..have been the better seller than their own gasoline variants; the Vezel, Grace, Fit, Shuttle Hybrids again were popular sellers only to be dethroned by newer models from other manufacturers....the Mark X which was Toyota's second longest selling sedan series (the X platform in general..i.e. the "Mark" series) got killed soon after the Camry, which was Hybrid only for Japan, was launched. In fact where normal cars are concerned its only Mazda who is going along with no Hybrids because their Skyactiv engines, but that too seems to be on a changing trend because that was the primary reason for them to partner up with Toyota. Subaru is going half and half...but the gasoline half is sustained pretty much by enthusiasts.... So it is NOT valid to say that Hybrids are not popular in their home country (I am assuming you are referring to Japan since 95% of Hybrids in SL are Japanese). Now...in Japan far more kei cars are sold than any other type of car but that has nothing to do with Hybrids....The Suzuki kei cars, which are the only somewhat Hybrid kei cars around are not that popular compared to other kei cars because the others are a lot better..again...noting to do with Hybrid or not.

  8. Finally I received my Ford Focus. It is a generation 3 model and generation 4 will be released in Q3 in Europe but the agent in Sri Lanka import 3rd Generation model in Titanium trim. However it seems this Titanium trim is customized for Sri Lanka or similar markets since some of the options available in UK titanium model cannot be seen. (Examples, leather seats, Auto breaking, B pillar key pad etc.). It has 8'' touch screen Sync 3 infortainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The Carplay works well but have to wait until iOS 12 to use Google maps in it. The model comes with 1.0l ecoboost engine and 6F15, 6 speed automatic transmission (not the dual clutch transmission). The engine has 123 bhp and 170 nm torque. Will update the fuel economy after 1500-2000 km and minimum 95 octane should be used. Yesterday I picked the car and drove to Kandy from Colombo and I did not feel it as a car with 1l engine. The engine is refined and you cannot feel the vibration common to 3 pot engines. The acceleration is also good and you can glide in 70 km/h less than 2k rpm. Did not do any hard accelerations since the engine break-in period is around 1000-1500 km but I had to overtake one 40ft container once and when the turbo kicks in, the the car performs really well. The build quality is great and it is a really nice car to drive. Very comfortable and handles well. My old car was a Honda Fit GP1 and missed the magic seat arrangement in it but Focus too have good rear leg space. Some of the pictures are given below. The color is Blazer Blue. I purchased this for a special discounted price and the current selling price is 5.85 millions.

  10. you can search in the forum for details. Some are saying the Li-ion batteries used in newer hybrid cars do not depreciate like in older ones with Ni-MH. But the truth is different as seen by that even newer hybrid batteries having issues under SL conditions. The 100% safe solution is to change with Original Toyota Battery(No worries for some more years if you plan to keep it) But if you plan to sell the car soon you can go for a cheaper Chinese Complete battery or even Cell repair. In both case there is no guarantee how long you have until the problems come again.

  11. So here is some feedback. You cannot bend the side mirrors electrically. Not sure why this basic feature is not there. Vehicle lights are yellow Entertainment system doubles up as the gauges for the A/C system. For example if you turn the cold / heat knob the amount is displayed in the entertainment system. There is no other way to see this. So not sure if you can replace this with a aftermarket branded model to upgrade A/C system is basic. no Auto function Display on entertainment system is very poor quality. Even cheap chineses once have better displays Sound system - poor Seat belt warnings stay on even without anyone sitting on the seats. And goes off after some time Interior build is pretty cheap Seats average - not bad actually Vehicle look is good- for me :) Pickup is good multi function has a lot of options, includes bluetooth as well Supports Apple but not Android No other fafety options than Airbags and ABS So overall I would say if you really want a brand new SUV but don't have the money for that go for it. For a small SUV this is cheap! Else I feel the money will be wasted. 2nd hand market; not sure. But I have a good feeling PPL will not go for this. But I can be wrong :)

  12. If you don't mind about the second market value peugeot 3008 is the best option on this compact suv category. (new exterior design and uncomparable premium interior for this price value.) I'd say 3008>qashqai>chr>vezel. but there will be certain compromises such as, our family car, 2018 Qashqai has no oil filter available in SL. Even at A*W. I'm pretty sure same problems would occur for newer peugeot models. It wouldn't be a problem if the money is in your side but, i'd say there will be lesser problems if you get a honda or a toyota,

  15. Too bad you had to choose a vitz over a demio. Mine was the opposite case. I was initially looking for a vitz, & in the process changed my mind and ended up with demio. Like they say car chooses the driver..? Anyway good luck & congratulations on the car!!

  17. @mazda2 I do not intend to comment on use of ATF for it had been discussed in length by others. As for the other points on engine oil, 2. That's fine if you decided to use 10W30 oil as long as you don't see a significant reduction in oil level between service intervals. So keep an eye on the oil level. 3. No, there is no such thing. 5. Mazda recommends 5W30 so 10W30 is just as good (subject to my comment on point 2 above). 6. That's a misrepresentation of facts IMO. What really happens is some people change engine oil in 5000km intervals without giving due regard to the time period. For a car that runs a few tens of kms a week it may very well take over a year to reach the 5000km service mark and would invariably result in sludge formation. So the service interval should be 5000kms or six months whichever comes first whether you use 10W30 or 15W40.

  18. Thanks stig and Rohnd for the details. Checked the bearings closely after removing the Tyre and brake drum, they seem to be faulty. Rotating them by hand, felt grinding and uneven motion. Got a recon bearing for 12,000/= and replaced at pepiliyana place. Now the noise has completely gone.

  19. You understand that this forum is a free service rite. And people here are also spend their own time to support, share knowledge on stuff you me and all other people who comes here asks & they dont get paid for that either. So please stop complaining that this site does not have better search categories and have no good administration to guide new people. I was a new member here once and to date i find this site very helpful and have some great people contributing their own time to help fellow motorists. What watchman suggest is very simple, if you have a query, do a search, you'll find threads which related subjects are discussed. If those threads does not have what you are looking for, just use the most related thread for what you are looking for to ask your question without adding new threads. In that way all updated info on that subject are on a same place.. see simple and effective..

  20. Dude Watchman, What i wanted from Autolanka was some information related to a good garage. Now i have to answer some forum related stuff. As a user of this forum what i expected was to get auto related information. For that i used search option it did not give expected results then i found a post related to "How to search autolanka using Google" then i followed that still i had that in my another browser Tab. Here is it https://www.google.lk/#q=site:autolanka.com+paint+garage Right? And i saw then you are asking to delete this of point to another thread. I think pointing to another thread is ok. Since you may know the forum very well you can point a user to that helpful. And if you like to delete then delete this if that is the way you treat for a user of this forum. My feeling is that without asking forum related technical things from a user its better to give some user friendly search. (I am telling this not because of i do not have any faith on AL forum but the way you think or response about a users requrement from this forum ) Finally if you do not like this and if you can delete this (again if you want) then go ahead and delete this or help me to find relevant information or some other wiling to help me will post for this (some times may not) Anyway thank you for your quick response at least.

  21. 2012-13 used Hybrids have flooded the market where owners try to sell them before they have to replace the battery. So expect market will slowly realize Hybrids depreciate many times more than a typical non-hybrid. Hybrid rush in Sri Lanka is a bubble created by Car Sale guys. Non of these vehicles are popular even in their home market.
