  1. I’ve been alone traveler in my car from home to work and vice versa for some time now. I was just thinking that lone riders like me are just adding another burden to the nationwide crisis of traffic congestion by occupying unutilised road space. I know that many of you are the same. But, we have no other option as the public transportation in this country is hopeless. No one wants to end up in their destination late in sweaty, wrinkled cloths maybe after a fist fight or two with a conductor. So, what can we do to improve the situation? What can we do to reduce the traffic congestion in the roads? How about offering a ride to someone else in need? This idea was pondering in my mind for some time now and I was checking in the web for any carpooling/ride sharing apps but non of them seem to be very active. Therefore; thought about posting it here in Autolanka. So, if anyone of you know of any local websites, communities or Apps involved in Carpooling / ridesharing can you please post the details in this thread? And; if anyone of you are willing to offer a ride or in need of a ride; maybe you can share the details here in this thread with following information. i'm mainly talking about recurring rides rather than one off rides which would be more meaningful. · Start Location · Starting time · Destination · Route · Number of seats available/required · Preferences/comments By doing so; you would lend a helping hand to someone in need, make new friends and maybe you’ll be able to reduce your expenses as well by sharing the costs. I hope we can use this as a platform for this purpose and if this is against the forum rules; please remove this Happy Carpooling everyone

  2. Yeah good concept to start from the forum itself. I guess other than @PreseaLover the other members are safe to travel with and vice-versa. Actually Presea and I live in the same area so this is kinda worrying now ..... I actually drop a friend of mine at kelani bridge (i head towards Negombo road and him Kandy road he takes a bus rest of the way) but being in the Software industry leaving time is unpredictable cos if there's some severe bug that needs to be looked into good luck to the car-poolers

  5. To me it seems like Land Rover is doing exactly what the rest of the world is doing - sticking to equal rolling diameter. But they're doing so by varying tyre pressure. I already said that I was wrong when I said "equal tyre pressure". It should obviously be equal rolling diameter. You could have corrected me when you saw it - that would have been the gentlemanly thing to do. There is no denying that sticking to manufacturer's recommendation is what should be done. By adhering to the manufacturer's tyre pressure chart, what you're essentially doing is maintaining equal rolling diameter. To further my point on maintaining same sized tyres on AWD vehicles, read the content in the links below: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=18& https://www.souzastireservice.com/tires-101/tire-matching-awd-4wd.aspx

  6. I assume you mean the Suzuki Jimny 2door 660 cc version which IMHO doesn't justify the price tag. Plus it lacks rear space. I would recommend the Daihatsu Terios. It's not a hardcore off roader but you can get a 2009/10 specimen for your budget. Its a solid and simple vehicle that is suited to bad roads but not for serious off roading. The other options mentioned above such as surf etc will not fall in the "compact" category.

  11. Yes it is. There are some complications associated with this as well. It’s easy to share your ride with someone you know well such as an office colleague. But; people tend to be reluctant to share a ride with a complete stranger. However; here in Autolanka most of us are like minded people and we can get an idea about each other easily. Therefore; I think it’s easy for us members to initiate this. Actually; I did carpooling with three of my colleagues sometime back. We lived in the same route and shared our rides. Since two of them resigned from the company and one changed his shift; I’ve been a loner ??

  12. This is very good concept but to be a success a large number of people need to pitch in. As for apps/websites there is this one called "lift ekak" haven't provided the link here but you can google for it .

  14. My two cents.. For 1-3 points Prius 2nd gen may be a good option. I think you can find around 3.6-3.8M range. For the 4th point You will not loose that much as it has the toyota badge

  15. I think you should take your car back to the agent and explain as it's clearly a case of the car not being repaired to spec. A*W being the agent, should either repair it or recommend writing off the car (hardly ever happens in Sri Lanka) if the damage is too extensive.

  18. buying a 121 in 2018 is like going on a date with Sumana Gomes. Seriously - i went car hunting 3 years ago and i checked out dozens and dozens of these cars almost all the 121's were abused piles of crap painted over with horrible plastic 'G' badges stuck here and there. Allions were slightly better off but still worn out...the 141s were actually quite good. To me it's a no brainer 9 out of 10 time's I'd pick the 141 ...on the 10th I'd pick a 141.
