  1. I was really concerned about this with Colonial as the Demio my father drives has a CVT. Since most Demios of the era have regular automatic transmissions, I was hoping they new their stuff and would use the proper CVT oil. I made it a point to tell my father to remind them that the car has CVT. I could make a really long list of all the blunders that C0l0nial has made with the Demio. After losing my patience, I just forgot about the whole "agent maintained" label and switched to Mazna. They have been really (I mean REALLY) good. Their services include a diagnostic scan where C0l0nial, who call themselves the "agent" doesn't do that. Yes they will. Give them a call. The Demio DE does have an inherent issue with the steering rack developing issues (wearing out and making noises when going over rough roads mainly). I've had friends who own Demio DEs and even Mazna say this. If the noise is minimal, machining the rack and re-bushing will solve the issue, but if it's too far gone, the rack itself will have to be replaced. You can always negotiate with the seller and give him options to repair and sell, or drop the price.

  2. The interior of the car is essentially sealed. This is a pressure relief valve helps maintain proper pressure, temperature and to minimise fogging up on the windows. It also helps bleed out excess pressure when closing doors of the car, because a sudden spike in pressure occurs when doors are closed. In most cars, the pressure relief valve is located behind the rear bumper, towards the side.

  3. So a chap spends like 7mil on a car, with 1litre engine capacity + turbo, still confused about gas mileage and in the end complain! I mean what are you trying to achieve here? Impress the neighbor? Feel big? Why not use half of that on a thirsty SUV, or a tad bit older premium car, and spend a bit more on fuel! and peace of mind

  7. So the bottom line is engine de-greaser, or any other "thing" for that matter; is perfectly fine when used sensibly as and when needed as directed by the manufacturer and is applied by anyone who actually knows what they are doing

  8. Oil change 15000km or 1 year, (7500) may be for harsh conditions 100,000km is to replace iridium spark plugs 0W-20 is used in Japan mainly to achieve emission and fuel consumption targets 10W -30 will have bit more viscosity and therefore could result in marginal loss in economy but i doubt will have any engine damage

  9. It should be in overdrive at that speed if you are smooth with the accelerator (4th gear) Gear selection is base on 2 reading, vehicle speed and throttle position. If you are flooring it then the car will go into 3 or 2 and give better torque but if you are just cruising then it should be in OD. While going around 60 turn off OD and see if you notice a gear changed (ideally it should shift from 4 to 3). If you don't notice anything then your OD is not engaging properly. 10. I had a horrible experience with engine degreaser at "don't care point" . For the first time in my ownership I had to leave the car there and attend to some other business. When I returned they had emptied an en entire can of degreaser all over the engine bay including over the maf, throttle body etc. I asked them to wipe it off and left since the car seemed OK. On the way back very close to my lane I suddenly lost power and throttle went nuts. I had to push the car home and immediately knew what the issues was. Called them up and blasted them about 3 times, then they sent a service adviser and the guy who "serviced" my car. They emptied and entire bottle of throttle body cleaner into the intake (i silently watched, it was like watching monkeys learning to use tools), removed all plugs and cleaned. 3 hours later the car is still misfiring like crazy, i got bored of watching "idiots at work" and told them to leave. Had to clean all the plugs again, removed them and realized that they had not gaped them properly. Cleaned the plugs and sprayed contact cleaner on the ignition coils cause they were still soaked with degreaser. Took out MAF and TPS, guess what ? soaked with degreaser ! again cleaned them also with contact cleaner and evaporated all the degreaser on the engine bay using a hair dryer. After about 1 day of drying the MAF, TPS, Plugs and Coils put everything back and she started up without a fuss. And the best part is they called me after 3 days to check how their "service" was, whoever called might have learned a new word or 2 Still waiting for a reply from them though

  11. Agreed. The problem becomes worse if the plastic mud guards under the engine are missing - this was a problem on my CS3 after a local mech misplaced the one of the mud guards. Spent hours cleaning the engine before finally making a mudguard from a black plastic sheet and fixing it to replace the mudguard. Was significantly better after that.

  12. specially if it is a JDM i would also prefer Mazna. I doubt that Colonial even use the right fluid for CVT boxes.

  13. would advise against colonial motors. many a nightmare from there. i do beleive our supra had a hair raising issue with this 6 maintained there as well. luckily VVTi and i were around to go to the rescue. go to mazna motors.

  14. If someone wants to know how Micro serve to their customers, there is Facebook group called Geely Pandas owners club sri lanka (i can not past the link here because of AL forum rules). you can see tons of negative comments. page admin has also faced the same kind of treatment , as an example i will write how he (admin) has started to post it in that FB page, <quote from FB> Dear <Removed - but this is the link of Micro page> People. I maintained my car through your company from the beginning of time on last 3 years. I wasted money, i wasted my time to stay whole day for a small service and even a small repair blah blah. And also last time i have done my 35k service in your cheating place too. I'm writing like this because what i faced today's situation. Today i went to my friends place to replace my iridiums. (Thanx to Mahesh you sent me the details about plugs and thats was helpful to me) So he checked the air filter, it looks like full of charcoal. It looks like not cleaned or not replaced from your services for ages. Then we checked the Throttle body, it filled with full of carbon and you guys still stay like dumb on services. Then we checked injectors as well and those all covered with full of carbon and all blackish and filled with dirt. What the hell you guys are doing in servicing vehicle? See the image attached below, when you remove the black engine cover, it was like "නාවින්න කුණු කන්ද". Even in a last 3 years, you guys never remove it atleast one time and put a vacuum or air pressure or seems you people not tried to clean the top mount engine ares. because there are too much dirt තට්ටු තට්ටු . . . ! So shame on you guys. what the hell you guys doing with our valuable time to waste full of a day and working with not trained careless workers? dont you guys have no money to get people to do the works and who love to work on these things? you guys just only doing the oil changing when servicing? really? Great. This is for your attention my friend <removed> and other members in this group. About that hell of place you putting your car in to services. Screenshot this and send to their higher management to see what the hell people doing in their place. They knows only eat in time, drint tea in time and stop the works at 4.30 in time. Thats all. Wasting our f**king time. Good luck micro . . .! Thank you very much my friend at <removed> who showed me all those things and showed few faulty things in my car that needs to repair soon. Thanx again.

  15. Thank you for joining Crosswind's math class. Here's the first lesson. You will travel 100km a day for 25 working days. 60% of it will be on the highway. So you will be driving 1,500km on the highway and 1,350km on ordinary roads. Let's also assume that a litre of petrol costs 140 Let's take car X - something like a gas guzzling Mazda Familia. It will do 9kmpl on ordinary roads and 12kmpl on the highway. You will spend 275 litres of petrol a month. That will cost you 38,500 a month for fuel. Homework 1: Calculate how the number 38,500 was achieved. Let's take car Y - something like a Suzuki Celery-o or a Nestomalt Elite, which will do 12kmpl on ordinary roads and 16kmpl on the highway. You will spend about 207 litres of petrol, which will cost you 28,980 per month Homework 2: Calculate how the number 28,950 was achieved. For your driving requirement, you will save 10,000 a month by going for a car that will be stingy on fuel. What you really need to think, is whether the saving of 10k a month justifiable. If you think that's the right approach, within your budget, you can get a Nestomalt Elite, Suzuki Celery-o, Bulto, Wagon AAAR (Yindiyan one not the Japanese one). If not, there are nicer cars such as Mazda Familia within that budget. A noteworthy mention is Fiat Punto. Punto's fuel figures are almost the same as Bultos and Elites. Plus you get italian looks and comfort.

  16. You must have mistaken it with a fiat panda which is a honest little motor. But in sri lanka there is a car called the micro(geely) panda. It is a different kind of animal. Actually it is a chinese turd with had been steped on and swiped all over the place by micro.

  17. Welcome to the forum ! For starters you are talking about a car model that is 18 to 23 years old ! After getting used for all these years how good the car is depends on how it was used by its previous owners. With age and use things like the engine and gearbox get worn out which effects things like fuel efficiency. OKay the REVIERE was released around 2000 so its about 18 years old. When the car was new, yes, it was a good car...solidly built with engine and drive train compoents that were solidly built and proven to be really durable in previous Corollas and other Toyota models. The Reviere was a special commenration model so it got a bit of a few extras on top of the standard SE Saloon accessories (mist clearing side mirrors, plated door handles and badges, fake wood panels, etc...)The interior finish of course was a bit of a let down compared to the E100 series Corolla (that Corolla was seriously over engineered because the chief engineer wanted a small segment Lexus LS). Its durability is also its problem. Over the last 18 to 25 years the car would have gone through several owners. Most of these owners buy the car for its "fuel efficiency" and "cheapness" to maintain. As a result a lot of these cars were not properly maintained and yet the cars keep working. So there are a lot of these cars around that are made to look shiny just to sell it off. On top of that they ask for ridiculous prices for a car that is so so old....especially for something like a Reviere because of the plated badges, and door handles, etc... So yes..the E110 Corolla (Reviere or any other grade) was a good car. 25 years later whether the car is good depends on the condition of the car. Buying one of these cars is a tough call because of the prices they go for and the effort involved in finding a good unit.

  18. Isn't this the case when purchasing any used car? Seriously, is it guerilla marketing season at Micro? First the BAIC and now this.

  19. Just to update: I replaced the battery pack. Got it brand new pack imported through a place in Kaduwela and fixed it few days back. Costs 285000 for the battery pack and 7500 for fixing.

  20. Hi Guys, Having being an avid reader of the AL forum for years, I thought I'd create an account and contribute as I got a 2018 Civic SR for the wifey a couple of weeks back. (Edit: Looks like I had another account already. May bad. let me kill the new one). Since her N16 was aging (gracefully), we needed an upgrade. The SR had quite alot of features and the interior was quite impressive. With an acceptable amount of crumple zones and weight, it was the right container for the kids to go to school/tuition etc. I got it down through a friend who was kind enough to give the UK registration papers. It clearly states the First Registration date. Even though I trusted the guys, this was like the cherry on top. The Car was shipped in a container arrived in SL in 3 weeks. Put the bad boy on a flat bed and brought it home on the 3rd day after landing in Colombo. First impression of the car all positive. It looks impressive (however I still am not big fan of the back). There's interior is roomy enough for a family of 4. Has enough leg room at the back for an average Sri Lankan. However since the seats are quite low, people with long legs might find it uncomfortable on long journeys. The 3 cylinder engine does sound different.. being very blunt, if a low capacity diesel engine had sex with a land master engine, you would get something that sounds like the civic's engine. But this little turbo charged puppy tend to grow on you so at least for me it's not a deal breaker. From the performance perspective, I'm still breaking in the engine so trying to stay under 100 and 4000 rpm, but you do feel the turbo lag but once it kicks in, you can clearly feel the difference. Handling wise, I'm impressed by how road hugging the car is, quick lane changes are quite enjoyable but I'm sure the 235/45R17s are going to make me pay through the nose come new tire time. Fuel consumption wise, it started at 3km/L the moment after the first tankful and after about 100kms, it's at 6+km/L and still improving. Friends, since this is my first post, if I've violated any rules here, please let me know. More than happy to adjust accordingly.

  21. I have to ask, where do you get all this information that you spout so authoritatively? "Honda is not having a good rep regarding engines in resant times" you say, care to provide some sources? Pretty much every engine Honda has made in the last decade or more has been perfectly fine in terms of durability based on any source I can find, maybe you've found different info? The 3 pot is actually quite smooth in use and if you didn't actually know what it was you'd not be able to tell it was different from an average 4 cyl. Honda like most Japanese makers does not adapt a technology until they are quite sure they can make it work reliably, unlike the euros (and especially the VW group). Between the two, I would still bet that the CIvic will be a better long term prospect than any VAG 1.0l turbo.
