  1. Which begs the question: Why are you trolling members of a forum that is dedicated to cars? I'm sure if you take your ideas over to another forum you'll be praised by the great multitude of people who look at cars as tools, but here the majority of us love cars. You have every right to your opinion, as do we, but despite our petrol-head bias, the majority of members were arguing with logic and common-sense: I.E if you want cheap running, buy a nice Japanese car! For the Rs. 300,000 spent on replacing a BMW engine with a 2C engine, not only would you be able to retain the value of it remaing what it was designed to be (after years of R&D by technicians in a multitude of fields), you would also be able to completely overhaul the original engine with a chunk of change to spare!

  2. NIlantha do you also have a Aqua? The stuff you say resonates a lot with a certain Aqua group.. Everyone loosing sleep over 1kmpl and saving Rs.100 on an oil change thats done at most once in 2 months.

  3. Your friend should be happy that I'm not in SL. Otherwise I would've found him myself and kicked him in the ass. Why didn't he just go buy a jap car that has a 2C engine in the first place? I'm sure he could've found a luxurious Toyota Crown. I started my BMW ownership with a 1999 320D. Loved everything about it. Went on to get a 2002 320D while I was still there. When I moved to the US my first car was again a BMW a 2002 325i. Then got a 2007 335i, then a 2009 M3. I currently have a 2011 X5d and looking to replace that with a newer X5 and soon to come is either a M3 or a M2. That's how I feel about BMWs. Did you count how many that was? 6 and continuing!! You sir are an ASS!

  4. More breaking news, that beemer's engine had been swapped with a 2C engine. Autolankans have pressed murder charges against the owner just kidding

  5. Homosexuality is not a choice and I respect that, have nothing against them. But dropping a 2C into a BMW is. LOL

  6. Not to undermine your fuel figures or your vehicle. My Hilux has the same engine, probably the same performance or lesser, but Manual Transmission, Torque focused gear ratios, Larger tyres, 42000km ODO, Used Super Diesel to date All Genuine Toyota oils and filters; Probably heavier / unladen, given all that barely does 7-8kmpl on a good day, half of yours, but of course I am not as obsessed as you with fuel figures but yours do seem a bit, lets just say on the optimistic side.

  8. Aquaman: do us all a favor, just buy a Jap and run it as you please. You will save the rest of us the trouble of having to listen to this nonsense... Leave the Euros to ppl who actually value them and enjoy them and would take measures to maintain them as required, even if it costs an arm or leg sometimes... Besides, ppl who are loyal to EU brands will not buy a EU brand with a Japanese engine... they also are brought for their engines and driving dynamics.. not for looks.. if you want a car with less headaches and maintenance, go for diesel Jap, no one is stopping you, besides it will hold value and retain demand. Stay away from EU makes

  12. Harsh truth is car entusiasts are a rare breed compared to the general population. We've all seen our fair share of Pertol cars running diesel engines. Everything from Euros to even older Japs which came with fairly economical petrol engines. Until someone decided they're not cheap enough. Even in the car circles, there are two types 1. Who would buy a car to enjoy how it drives and actually experience the character of a particular car. 2. Who would call anything with a spoiler "sport model" who just want the bragging rights. For this lot, the other crowd are loonies. The same way that these guys look like loonies to us. So the thread has come full circle and answered Nishan's question as to what happened to the 320Ds, they have come to price point where they are now affordable to the "illang posh" crowd (I hope that doesn't say a lot about me though ) and are being hacked to death in some maka baas's shed.

  13. What is the final Diagnosis Stafford Motors gave you after you changed the EGR valve and it didnt solve the issue? Did they connect the Honda Diagnostic System to the car and did they say if there were any error codes logged? Did you mention the RPM variation issue to Stafford?

  15. Maybe if you were just evaluating it cosmetically; but half the attraction of these high end cars is the effortless manner in which these engines lop along at speed, how effortlessly the torque gets delivered and how well the engine-transmission-suspension work in conjunction etc. Throwing a 2C in a Merc may save money in the long run but also may not make for a great driving experience. But that as mentioned is a personal choice, and you're entitled to it. I have to admit though that I'm interested in how these cars run. You mentioned that a 2C engine was transplanted into a Merc by a mechanic (baas) known to you but do these cars actually run okay? How does he do it? He'd have to splice the wiring harness and by-pass all kinds of sensors just to get it to turn over. (Unless he's doing this on really old cars). And even then I'd be skeptical that it would all work as intended. I'd be afraid that the end result won't even run as good as an old Corolla...

  16. Sure. You're welcome. But like most of the members when looking at second hand cars if I were presented with a Merc or Beemer that had a 2C transplant in it, I'd walk away. I'd be amused enough to drive it, just it see what it was like, but like someone mentioned I'd just go buy a Toyota Crown or Avalon if I wanted a car that had a reliable Toyota engine but still offered a bit of comfort

  17. I dont know if I missed it, but did hoonigan mention the colour he plans to paint the car in? I've been seeing a number of non-modern cars with metalic paints, and some of those colours are so unnatural it's like a granny in a thong. It's supposed to make an ass sexy, but it's just wrong! Been seeing a lot of photos of a metallic red capri that just doesn't look right..

  18. To be fair he didn't contradict himself, he did always state that BMW owners bought their cars for 'the looks' and that after a while once the car gets older its better to replace the engine with a 2C Japanese engine as European cars (especially the engines) are hard to maintain. Aquaman may have a different point of view to the popular opinion here but he has consistently maintained the same basic premise; and is I guess entitled to his own view...

  21. edit: Double post but while I'm at it, I guess you're the type who would buy a Euro and run it to the ground because you don't want to spend a penny on keeping the car in decent shape. and then another one of you would pick it up and go the extra mile and gut the poor thing. Do you buy your wife immitation jewelry as well???

  23. Sorry to say this, but its folks like you that damage or give a great brand a bad name... your perspective of running a European car is equal to "only f**ts and no sh** ! "

  25. I don't think a BMW is the right car to buy if economy is the primary concern. There are plenty of other cars to buy for economy. One buys a BMW for what they are as a whole car. If you gut it and dump a Toyota engine in it, you're no longer driving a BMW, which would defeat the whole point of buying a BMW. BTW, it's not just the engine and tranny, pretty much everything else about them sell at a premium compared to a Jap so you won't be out of the woods even after an engine transplant.

  26. 250kW solar panel???? It should be '250W' not '250kW'. For installing a Solar Net Metering System, (1) You have to decide how many units (1unit = 1kWh) you need to generate per month. Usually 1 solar panel of 250W generates around 27 - 30 units (kWh) per month (2) To obtain required number of units , how many solar panels you need? (3) To fix that number of solar panels, do you have enough space on your roof , without shading. (4) Suitable inverter capacity. There are number of parameters to check before you go for a Solar Net Metering System. Basically it is worth if you use more than 180 - 200 units per month.

  27. Anybody familiar with the car? It must be very good on fuel but how is the durability of the car especially the 'multi-tronic' box? Any known bad points of the car? Mileage is about 80000. Imported brand new.
