  1. based on what i've seen over the years & have been told by the moderators, all of you do a "thankless job" , "for no remuneration" "cleaning manure" - but is that any excuse to go around bullying the newbies?!?! I know full well & personally that you'll are far above being so unnecessarily short with people, but it's rather disappointing to see the sort of welcome folks get on the forums now! It's easy to understand the frustration dealing with the odd moron but would it kill you'll to not be so touchy and provide a constructive reply?! after all the topic posters idea was certainly not a bad one!

  2. Bought an RX7 Series 2 SA22C (FB to many) on Wednesday after seeing it last Saturday. Wasn't cocked too when making the decision. . Had the RX itch for a long long time and finally got one. I'm unable to post pics from my office PC for some reason so will post when I get home. Not easy to describe the condition but here goes. First up no rotary engine - Naturally - Need to find one here (probably unlikely - but if anyone knows pls do tell), or import one. It's running on a very coarse sounding Mazda 4 pot. Almost the exact opposite of a buzzing smooth rotary. 12As are supposedly hard to find so might have to settle for a 13B. The roof (which has a sunroof) is totally botched by some blind dick. Will try to find a roof panel with or without a sunroof or get it done without the sunroof locally by a good tinker. A few other places with some rust but not too scary (by my standards at least ). The paint job is scary though. Front bumper has seen to many punches and looks bad. Interior is largely in tact with some broken switches. Seats don't seem original but don't look really out of place (for now). Electrics need attention but the lamps pop up and light up! Steering has been messed around with but according to a UK RX FB forum is an easy fix. Front suspension was done according to previous owner and actually feels ok compared to the bouncy and noisy rear. All glasses in tact and original though a few bits of bright work and a hinge for the rear hatch is missing. Original up-swept spoiler has been replaced with a modern aluminum wing. . Tail lamps are strange. To my eyes they resemble series 1 ones but the rear end is series 2. Need to figure that out.

  5. Congrats GTAm !!! In our childhood, all cars with pop-up lights were identified as "Knight Rider Cars". I daily see a Honda Quint Integra (first generation) at Ruhunu Foods, Fort, with pop-up lights, but sadly it is with a modified front bumper. Otherwise car is still in good shape.

  6. i guess this all makes sence in there point of view. there was a time when u walk on the roads all you see were hidustan ambasadors and maruti 800's\ now thought the streets are filled with hyundai's i10's and i20's and also tata indica's so i guess thats why they are stopping production for these cars and still keeping that horrible omni.

  8. Well said indeed crosswind!! And aon a slight OT note, it reminds me of that fellow who came here looking to get advice on buying/selling cars. We told him to do an honest decent job by taking an effort to improve the car and he didnt even have the decency or courtesy to follow up with a thank you.

  9. First up, vehicle prices don't appreciate and depreciate in random in other countries like Sri Lanka. There is no cut throat competition to buy and sell vehicles by random Johnnies in the said countries which maintain fairly accurate databases. Also there is no consistency in valuations by the so-called valuers in Sri Lanka. Believe me, I have taken dozens of valuations. Only Godwin Yapa gives consistent valuations. Everyone else, including the major player in the valuation industry are inconsistent (to the extent that two vehicles of the same brand and model with the same options and same YOM may have differences of even 300-400k, unless its a very common model like Corolla). Example: Two Proton Wajas of same YoM, same option, same condition, were valued at 14/50 (KF-XXXX) and 19/50 (KD-XXXX) by a famous valuer (the second car was from a buy and sell guy). I can quote a dozen examples but don't really need to. Insurance industry is even worse. You can slip something to the assessor and get a car condemned. You can slip something more to the guy who handles the tender and get the same car back to you for a pittance. And what if such a database is implemented, it will only be used as a tool for folks to artificially inflate prices and fool people by buy and sell guys here in Sri Lanka. Right now, check the number of fake ads in ###### for mobile phones and cars. If a database gives higher or lower than a realistic value, soon it will be rejected by people. Things may sound like a great idea when you have zero practical experience in a subject. You need to be involved in something to understand how it can be used and abused in Sri Lanka.

  10. Managed to dig up an old set of images off a manual I found online a few years back. All about rally prepping a 1600 GSR. I'm sharing a thumbnail image below and have included links to each of the pages (13 total pages) further below because the images themselves are a large and might cause this page take a while to load. Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 | Page 6 | Page 7 | Page 8 | Page 9 | Page 10 | Page 11 | Page 12 | Page 13

  15. Dilrukds, If you want to find the exact part number, try this site out : http://japancars.ru/index.php?route=catalog/nissan .. go to the second tab (model) and select your model, and you'd get the parts diagrams. Site is accurate, as long as you get your model right. Hope it helps.

  16. 0MD, about the car and his family stuff and everyhting was all false information i got. but about the polla thing i apologize for that, i told sanath about the incident that occured between his uncle and our business, i should have not drag personal matter into this. about the car and about his family (my comment about him not even passing the car to his sons) was false information i was given anyways i am really happy to know that the GSR in quention is not the car i saw and its been treated well,. whatever kind of person the owner is irrelavent. what matters is that we have a motoring gem in our land and it is been looked after now. hopefully it will be back in our streets with all its former glory

  17. sanath gsr, As the person who popped an old thread and caused the whole story to go ablaze, I wll explain why you do not have to be offended. First and foremost, it must be said that whatever car it is that is rotting out there is a good old Lancer 2 door. And makes any enthusiast's heart break to see a car in such a state regardless of whether it is a 1600 GSR or not. It is only natural even for me to get all worked up when someone neglects a car and let it go to the grave. So please understand that. On AutoLanka, we like to have fun while discussing important matters, and the whole boosting and setting fire was a part of us having fun. You have to understand that they are not serious comments. Take it easy. Everyone's dissappointment and negative comments about the car is solid proof that everyone who commented here are pure enthusiasts and are aching to see a original 1600 GSR on Sri Lankan roads. If the car is really being restored and rescued, then please share with us all the information and photos. Most of us on the forum have not witnessed a real 1600 GSR and I'm sure others like me would love it if you share the story. Finally, it makes my heart leap with absolute joy to hear that we have a car that saw the finish line of a Safari Rally! What a priviledge it must be to be owning a car with such a remarkable history. Peace!

  18. Guys, first lancer GSr 1600 was imported in early 80's by former racing driver Late Mr Ajantha Dinamitra, the same car passed the chequred flag at the kenyan safari under the number 33 . lin late 70's and early 80 's the car won many races for mitsubhishi motors , in the video clip u can see it was driven by jap test driver who workedf or mitsubhishi motors. when the car was introduced to the local scenario it was the most fearful devil machine which won almost every race it competed in. later the car was sold to Mr Rohana Kulasiri and he maintaned the same winning record the car had. after few races the car again changed hands with Mr Upul Perera. lucky car again and again proved its a beast and sold again to the current owner in mid 90 s .the photo which u guys sw was not the GSR it was a lancer but not a GSR , its stored in a garage. and now undergoing restoration.

  21. Hey guys it would be nice if you all could elaborate on the type of permits available currently (aug-sept 2013) , the extension of CIF values permitted and vehicles that can be brought down ! Any important stuff about permits, buying them, importing vehicles through permit, precautions and so on shared here would be useful to many of our forum readers as well as those who google search it ! * Kindly avoid trolling and don't post anything if you are not interested in sharing info regarding this topic. THANKS

  22. Dude crosswind, the need for leather covers was just to protect the seat fabric from all sorts of dirt that get into especially when you live in a rainy hill station, and also coz of kids having snacks on the rear ! there's no need to dress up a merc for prestige.... it simply is !
    1 point
  23. Don, are you seriously that naive??? It's not a matter of comfort or safety. This bloke has got a stripped down Merc on a permit. With fabric seats and no rear armrest, this C200 is in the same league as a Maruti 800, Toyota Vitz, Nissan March and the likes. That's why the bugger desperately wants to dress it up in seat covers and some artificial armrest. It's a matter of so-called prestige:D Remember the old (modified) saying.. money can buy Mercs and Bimmers but money can't buy class!

  24. Dear Dhork Replying to your info that I had a 2005 facelift 121 color sky blue. It was a XLi Grade So the options were limited. It had it had Grey Interior 1.3 Engine good on Fuel in city 13-14 outstation 16-17. d/airbags / P Shutters. P mirrors. Didn't have (front fog lights/ ABS) And fitted Bnew 14inch Alloys. Well my best friend had 2003 purple 121 which was an LX Limited didn't not have the ABS. But Space wise comparing to Diki light model and older version space wise almost the same. But I prefer 2005 facelift model cause it has a modern look. Well as I know G grade and the Luxel are the highest grades in 121. Both has Teak dash & Touch A/C system. of cause G grade has a trip meter. Luggage space also the same .. Hope this info helps ..

  26. It's a million dollar stupid idea. who exactly determines the price of a used vehicle? some god out there? the government? have u heard of economics? supply and demand? commodities like milk powder and electricity can have a control price (although they shouldn't).. but vehicles are not a commodity so at the end of the day, price of a vehicle will be what the buyer and the seller agrees on. period. having data bases and artificially trying to control prices (like what the motor mag does) makes no sense and nobody even bothers to look at them...

  27. Wow,Anti Prius-ness taken to the extreme by some people.I know I was one of the first to lock horns with Cali and his hybrid propaganda, but that was in 2010 when hybrids were new to the market and if one broke down then you were screwed. Now four years on things have changed. We have official agent support and we have established places who can take care of these cars...Yes most of the owners are oblivious dickheads and the cars themselves are not god's gift to man as some believe but what can you do... OP Bucket has basically screwed his friend by turning him away from Prii.Because the indian City is a pile of crap and the Lancer will depreciate fast while getting low mileage, high price spares etc...This is what happens when one clueless idiot gives advice to another.Aney hukey!

  30. There was never an intention of being polite in my post You don't need an IT degree or anything to know how impractical such a thing is. No human being of a mature/sensible state of mind would even think of something like this. If you can give me a single example of something that is being traded at a fixed price in the 2nd hand market, i'll admit that my comment was out of line. OK? And this "I did a search but there was no result" BS is getting just has absurd. This WAS brought up before, and shot down due to people having common sense.
