  1. Dear all, This is not abot automative but domestic renewable energy. Thouht that you will want to share some thoughts. As you know the electricity bill is giving us heart attacks. Thought of doing a research to see how feasiable to install a solar powered energy system at home. Contacted about 3 vendors and rough cost eatimations are below 1kWp (125 units on average capacity) about 550,00 LKR 1.5kWp ( 125 units on average capacity) about 700,00 LKR. Warrenty - 25 years for the solara pannels / 10 years for inverter. I am now considering if I can buy these units seperately (pannel and inverter and other units) and install by myself for knowledge/fun and most importantly due to higher initial cost. I am not an engineer by profession but good in basics. Please share your thoughts that might help my DIY project. Thanks

  2. +1 to watchman there are a lot of duplicate threads which actually kind of confuses a nwbie rather than helping him. I mean the best one is the recommendation of vehicles under several price brackets, which almost are adjacent to each other.thanks to the forum guys I never see any one complaining but again its pure repetition, which doesnt add value for both parties.Im sure a pinch of common sense wouldnt hurt anyone.

  3. After over 2 years of searching for an OEM spoiler for my CS3 (for a sane price) I finally hit the jackpot. First and foremost I must say that I wouldn’t have gone and picked this up if it weren’t for trinity. Tracked it down after seeing an ad on a local website and the price was just below 10,000 (brand new)! I was damn lucky ‘cause I picked up the last one of the batch that they had imported. After having it for over a month in my trunk, I got it painted last week. And as always I wanted the job to be as original as possible, so I tried to get everything done to factory specs. trinity picked up the mounting gaskets for me from UniMo (the last two in stock and both were for the left side). Placed an order for the right side – gonna run on 3M double sided tape on that side until this comes down. I had to take the car to a garage to get the trunk lid drilled because I don’t have one with me. It was pretty easy locating the spots to drill because this was an OEM spoiler and the trunk lid had markings (on the under side) on the spots to be drilled. 4 holes for the mounting bolts and 1 more on the left side for the stop light wire. The trunk lid bumpers (two rubber bushes on either side) had to be removed temporarily to drill the holes and mount the wing. After the holes were drilled, I test fitted the spoiler and began work back at home. I made sure that no metal was exposed around the drilled holes (that would cause the trunk lid to corrode) by applying matching paint. Here's me geared up for the install. Positioned and pasted the gaskets on the spoiler and mounted the spoiler using 4 bolts. Two of the bolts are a bit hard to be fastened if they have a hex head because a socket wrench cannot be manoeuvred inside the space through which it has to be fastened. So I had to use a bolt with a Philips head for those two screws (as instructed by the manufacturer in the workshop manual as well). Bought black flexible PVC wire insulation and made a cut along the wall from one end to the other to make it easy for the wire to be inserted. Covered both ends using black insulation tape. My car already has a third stop light behind the rear windscreen. On CS Lancers that came with the spoiler from the factory, they don’t have this as the spoiler itself has a stop light. So I disconnected the third stop light (by removing the bulb). I didn’t want to cut and chop any wires as well and after looking around a bit, I discovered that the manufacturer has provided a way to tap into the third stop light connector by just plugging two (+ and -) wires to the connector as shown below. The externally plugged in wire can be secured with a piece of plastic that can be snapped into place. That was a huge relief! All done. Continued...

  7. Whenever I see those dipshits behind me with strobe lights (even if they drive defenders, prados and whatnot), I consider it as my duty to hog the road right in front of them and not let them pass. I am happy to say that I was successful in agitating one of those dipshits to have encounter with a lamp post.

  8. Machan it's not my forum to dictate rules on how old a thread should be if it is to be bumped up with a new question. My personal view is that it makes more logical sense to bump up a 5 year old topic. In cases of generic questions like painting or accident repairs, yes the price someone paid for a paint job 5 years ago wont be the same now, but there maybe other valuable information such as things to look out for when choosing a painter etc which is valid no matter when it was said. And say in another 5 years someone is doing a search and they see this thread and another that's 5 years older. Will it matter if the thread is from 5 years ago or 10 years ago? it's already outdated. Right now, even this common topic is scattered all over the place based on everyone looking at the issue only from their own perspective. "I have rust, who's the best tinker?", "How is XXX shop for accident repairs?", "Mazda 3 dent fixing". Imagine if everyone's knowledge and experience on tinkering/painting compiled in one thread. How easy would it be. Or imagine all discussions about "Toyota corolla 110" being in one thread. Wouldn't that be a treat for a newbie. It's not an uncommon think...When I was planning on buying a bike, I remember reading a thread that was 50+ pages about that model. At the end of that thread I knew everything I needed to know about. I didnt have to go hunting under all possible key words related to it. I shall stop rambling now. So don't worry on how old the thread is, just use it. When members read it they'll know to look at the date and respond accordingly

  9. Well if a Prius breakdown in the jungles of SL, there are always tow truck services falling out of the trees these days to cheaply bring back the car to Colombo. But wait... most of the Prius owners will be too stingy to pay for a tow truck, they will bring it on the back of a Canter.... Cali, don't worry machang... I've had one of my Euros stop in a rather inconvenient location in SL with a busted relay but lo behold, since some of us know our cars managed to by pass the troubled circuit with a bit of help from a local Auto electrician and continue our trip. And another time again, one of my former Euro's remote lock stopped working and a very unlikely mechanic from the East coast fixed it. The another time, when Ripper and I were on our bike trip, his XR's rather complex ignition system conked out in Potuvil and a small garage boy fixed it. So I think the first mistake you are making is underestimating the power of knowledge out there in the 'jungles' of SL.... give enough time and our buggers will make Vesak Koodu out of your precious Synergy Hybrid drives...

  10. I'm not sure about the Viva Elite but some cars make a ticking sound from the steering column when taking a bend (that requires turning the wheel a couple of full rounds) while the turn signal is on (in the direction of the turn). This is because of the turn signal auto-off mechanism going over the signal lever when the steering wheel turns, which of course is very normal. But if this is a recent development, this might not be the case.
