  1. It was featured on the last MoTorque epsisode. I admit the car really is mint, but the question is would you be willing to spend 2.5mil on one of these. The joy in most of these cars is in the shedding of sweat and tears on the restoration process rather than the ownership itself. It's like raising a kid to see him/her grow up and succeed in life as opposed to paying some 19 year old university student to be your adopted kid.

  2. By now you must be convinced of the pros and cons of the move. Still if you want to go ahead, you may go for Japanese originals with manufacturing date as recent as possible but as MD says no re-grooved ones. You really need to take some time off to search and find a set. Since you are going to use it for another few months as the post says, you will stand to be the guinea pig first.

  3. Drive Gently. Change gears without hard acceleration on one gear. Don't hard accelerate and break. Keep constant speed when driving long journey.

  4. Yes, correct facts and wrong application i guess. 1 - wide tyres in off roaredrs reduce pressure on surface so it doesn't sink easily, (you may notice that driving in sand needed less air pressure , just to wider the tyre ). And yes it increases the limiting frictional force.(that ú depends on surface nature) 2 - when driving , the friction acts along the way car drives , ex-forward when you drive forward. So yes, engine produces the power and force for it,in case the friction higher, yes the fuel consumption drops. (you can experience this when using a wider tyre , it always reduce the fuel efficiency) 3-yes , limiting friction is the one which holds the car down to road, not the static(dynamic) friction.

  5. @ chan5, thanks for the informative reply. Is there any formula for friction which include surface area? As far as I know static and kinetic friction only differs because of "U" (coefficient of friction) not the surface area. The wider tire in off road use is probably because they are not sinking in mud. And the tire surface is NOT moving relative to road surface in a given point unless the tire is slipping. Just see following link http://ffden-2.phys.uaf.edu/211_fall2002.web.dir/ben_townsend/staticandkineticfriction.htm

  6. simple, the above equation applies for (F=úR) dynamic friction, which means two surfaces should slip each other to apply that.(ex-a moving carrom disk). What a car need is limiting frictional force, which is the friction which applies when tyre is not skidding, as it roll on road. Yes it's depend on the surface area and grip pattern. That's why we see rough and wide tyres on off road vehicles, the tyre is resistant to skid , but when it starts skidding (by exceeding limiting friction) it makes NO difference with a regular tyre. So high grip tyres on regular roads make it more load on drivetrain which results in poor fuel figures. Narrower the tyre, higher the efficiency and lower the safety. Since some hybrids are so keen on fuel consumption , you can see narrower tyres on prius compared to axio....(can't remember the exact sizes though)

  7. I have simple question, according to basic physics the force (F) of friction is equal to U (coefficient of friction ) multiply by weight of the object ® in horizontal plane, ie: F=UR It doesnt contain anything regarding surface area. "U" depends on the surface (Road and Tire) and "R" depends on the weight of the vehicle. So how a wider tire tire affect the friction apart from the additional weight?

  8. Members, Opinion differs from one person to another. I have changed tires with the load and without the load take for instance when a lorry is loaded if you have to change a tire. Do the driver and the cleaner have to unload the load first and change the tire and reload. there are safety precautions for all above. I have seen with passengers in the bus. Driver and the conductor change Tires on the road. I gave safe capacity of the Jack for easy handling. when there is a load it is difficult to operate low tonnage jack. That is the main reason I suggested to use a higher capacity jack. Sylvi Wijesinghe.

  9. ModX, You will have to buy a Hydraulic operated Jack with lifting capacity of 2 tons minimum. If you have a passenger load in your vehicle if you want to change a tire without requesting them not to get down. Then any jack has to go in for a capacity above 3 Tons. Be OK. There a plenty of brands available in Panchikawatte. It all depends how much you want to spend for Jack. Sylvi Wijesinghe.

  10. A young girl was raped by a man posing as a plain clothes officer; he asked her to come to the police station when she and her male friend didn't have a driver`s license to show. He sent the boy off to get his license and asked the girl to accompany him to the police station. Took her instead to an isolated area where the horrendous crime was committed. Infact, the law clearly states that between 6 pm and 6am, a woman has the right to REFUSE to go to the Police Station, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her. It is a procedural issue that a woman can be arrested between 6pm and 6 am, ONLY if she is arrested by a woman officer and taken to an ALL WOMEN police station. And if she is arrested by a male officer, it has to be proven that a woman officer was on duty at the time of arrest. It is good for us to know our rights. To what extent it comes of use remains to be seen in any situation. But as they say, knowledge is power.

  11. What he said was sudden movement inside can cause an issue. A loaded lorry does not move by itself, while what bus drivers/conductors do is totally different story

  13. How much is a BMW 520D “permit version”? I am being quoted between 11 and 13 Million. Apparently the government officials’ permits are now transferable. I met a car dealer yesterday. He had just sold a “Permit vehicle”, the buyer was there with him. According to him, the transfer is "free" (other than the normal DMV/RMV fees.) Have not done a transfer myself, cannot guarantee accuracy of this information. Thanks

  15. Hi Guys, I am thinking to buy used car my maximum budget is 2.5M. I am thinking Car models like Mitsubishi CS1 (Permit Car 2008 or later), Honda City GD8, Honda Fit Aria GD8, VIOS and Toyota 121. I like to by Auto Gear one but Manual OK. Give me your suggestion, what is the best car for home used and more economical fuel consumption with low cost maintain.
