  1. Hi One of my friend got the similar issue. When its around 5000RPM the engine gets heated up.He finally ended up with replacing engine. the issue was incorrect gasket for EK2. Some of maka bas are looking only the size of the gasket and if the water jackets are fine they change. But Honda use high temperature than other cars, the gasket will worn quickly. No smoke, no water mixed up with oil. .but there will be small bubbles coming on when you open the radiator cap. On cold engine First check the gasket, as you mentioned that engine heat came up to read line check that first. See the thermostat – most of the time this will be removed by Maka bas, if it’s not there the fans will run more time because the hot water always passing the fan sensor. That why the thermostat required you are not able to see the gasket till you open the head, but you can test with above way, if its small bubbles, definitely. The gasket is faulty. sira

  6. Chaps, if your blades are not wiping water out that well, get a bit of vinegar to a piece of cloth and wipe the rubber of the blade with it all the way through. That will recondition the rubber and you will see a difference straight away. You can only do this if your blades are still in good physical order and not falling apart. In the harsh climate it seems very few wiper blades survive for long. Ironically the ones that fared the best were some old NWBs that I had before. I replaced them with Belgian made Bosch but they started complaining only weeks in (just noising, nothing wrong with the cleaning) so I have to apply the vinegar trick to keep them going

  7. sounds like a head gasket. If you're taking the head off, get it checked by a machine shop to make sure it's still flat and within specs cos a warped head (due to overheating) will give you the same issue again. While its there, a good cleaning and valve job and new valve seals wouldn't hurt either. Valve cover needs to come off for the head gasket anyway, so replace the seal there too. Also, if you wanna spend a bit more, timing belt and cam seal.

  8. there is a 630k price difference between those cars if i have to choose between them what to buy i don't buy any of them because there are many better cars at that price range you can buy.than a maruti suzuki swift and maruti a-star remember a car been a brand new is not make everything better just my two cents. btw you can buy a proton saga(brand new) at that price range and it's a 4 door sedan not a hatchback like maruti a-star and maruti suzuki swift.

  9. here's a couple things to check that I've come across on our personal cars. If its a noise that goes on constantly, not just a single "clink", Check the cotter pins at the end of the axles. The cap that is usually put on to keep the nut from backing out is sometimes loose and will make noise. However it'll do it all the time so probably not your issue. Won't hurt to check. The next would be to check for play in your brake pads. If there's play between the holders, it may be hitting the top/bottom when it gets a fit of friction against the rotor. You may need to replace the slider plates (if that's what theyre called) Also, did you check your tie rod ends?

  10. Madmax, there is two sides to this story. As always things are rarely black and white but more shades of grey. To be honest I think whether individuals who work abroad and remit foreign currency to Sri Lankan deserve duty concessions or not for motor vehicles is a debatable point. To be honest they already get a duty concession at the duty free, which is still there so technically there is some concession provided. But you refer to a few other points. One related to brain drain and the other relates to taxes. Respect for your father for returning back to the country after his masters and quite a lot of people still do that. Out of curiosity may I ask how was his masters funded. People stay back after studies or go abroad to work for many reasons, and some of these reasons are fairly justifiable. Everybody wants a better life for themselves and their families. Not everyone who goes abroad for work come from a middle class background nor do they own any assets or a roof above their heads and for that matter a motor vehicle. I don't think you can find fault with people for wanting a better life. That is just human And quite a lot of them after some time come back, armed with funds and knowledge which they reinvest in their countries. The resurgence of Taiwan as a powerhouse in electronics is mainly attributed to positive brain drain they got back from individuals who moved back from the US. Another fact that is undeniable in the case of Sri Lanka is we are very much dependent on foreign currency remittances for the stability of the rupee but also to be able to maintain our ability to import goods. I wish I had a link to the articles I've read on the subject. So nobody should undermine their contribution but also the sacrifices some of these people make in the process (yes it is for themselves but still it is a sacrifice). To share my own story, when I was growing up my family went through a bad patch financially due to my father losing his job unjustly (unjustly as after nearly a decade in court he was awarded pay up to his retirement for being unjustly terminated by the court of appeal so it is a matter of record) my mother decided to take a teaching job in the Maldives. She could only put up with it for just around a year, as she could not bear to be away from her children, but it gave my family just enough support to pull out and move on to a better place. We all have our stories And finally you claim that people who earn their income in foreign currencies do not pay tax on their earnings. This might be the case in the middle east where there is generally no income tax, but in most other places the "foreign currency income" is taxed at the local income tax rate, unless you work for an international organisation.

  13. Well it's mostly a straight road and he probably assumed he had sufficient traction on his tyres and I guess 100km/h by motorway standards is not really that fast, so I wouldn't call him a fool, perhaps something happened to make him veer off the road more than just lack of traction. Who knows? But trust me if you drove 20km/h on a motorway you'll be offending other motorists, if you want to drive at that speed get on the galle road and while you say there is no minimum speed on the motorway, these are the things so many uneducated drivers start saying and make driving on that road dangerous. When I was on it the other week, 8/10 drivers couldn't keep to a lane making overtaking dangerous. Perhaps this is what happened: Someone thought 'no offence by driving in the middle, it's safe like that no?' and the idiot passengers probably thought 'no minimum speed limit no, so let's drive in the middle at 60km/h'. A CB3 Lancer may have been trying to overtake them going at 100 (because he has a beat barrel, no?) and finds he can't overtake the moron in the middle of the road. The moron then decides to pick a lane, going to the right, the Lancer then has to swing left, because he's an idiot too and has got too close (can't slow down cos he has a beat barrel) and goes off the road, crumples into a ball and lands on the farmer's cow. The original moron in the middle of the road said "ammatasiri see! Good thing we are going slow and in the middle like this"

  14. yeah, well, u don't really buy perf cars to compare fuel economy with econo-boxes Its like a woman. Certain models are high maintainence, and if u choose one, then u do it coz ur not too concerned about that cost.
