  1. That's not what I've said. I would rather spend and resurrect a car like this than spend 5 mil on a crappy corolla.

  2. If you don't know something, please keep quiet ok? this forum had enough b.s. going on at the moment. Just posting things like "let professional handle the work, specially with fabric materials" is of no use to anyone. Do you really think the monkeys working at the detailing centers are professionals? I wouldn't even let most of them clean my tires, let alone try to remove the stain. Also, please do refrain from creati ng pointless threads that no one cares about,.

  4. In this kind of a car you should not feel any difference in pulling power when AC on and off. As you guess Engine may not generate enough power. You may go to a reputed mechanic and get a compression test done since it has done more than 200k you may need to do a engine repair. If you feel your AC is not enough. consult a AC technician, but I don't think its related to the pulling power issue. Can any expert memeber kindly advise him?

  5. You sound like you are 'wannabe'. No one who loves cars asks that question from others. People have an idea of what car they want to restore eventually. They don't go around asking others. That's a bit retarded. Its like asking a public forum what kind of woman you should marry.

  6. You shouldn't be asking people what you should restore. It should ideally be a car you have a special connection to. The pain and time you spend restoring a vehicle and then maintaining it is considerable. So if you go decide on a car based on crowd mentality and not your own, it is not a project that would go the distance. Unless of-course you looking in to restoring for resale

  9. 300km?? that's work + weekend drive and all ? if that's only for work, it's arnd 6-7km one way to work. honestly, I suggest you put that money in a FD and use the services of a premium cab. Even then you can save money, and all the annoyance that comes when driving to work during peak hours.

  10. Don't go for Nissan FB15 if you are thinking about fuel. AK12 does 8Km/L in Colombo and 11Km/L outstation with AC Regarding swift, I might be wrong. My brother had a one after he bought a one he drove only 5000Kms and the shocks gone bad and had to replace. Car had only 40000Kms might be not a genuine mileage.

  12. I tried the paint/ restore route with Nawala CW and the Leather Restoration place in Rajagiriya. These were beige leather seats on a 98 model Land Cruiser. Nawala did a full paint job on a set of badly damaged and worn seats. They used a thinner based paint which lasted about 2 years (and about 45,000km) to their credit. While the job gave the seats a new look, there was a bit of an unnatural shine. Then I took it to the place in Rajagiriya (once the cracks started to appear) who claimed to use a specialist water based process. The finish didn't last for more than 6-8 months after which you could see the layers from under the new coat of paint appear. Couldn't say if this was a problem with the process or if it happened due to the thinner based treatment which lay under. We then took the vehicle to De@ns in Havelock Town to look at replacing certain portions of the seats (most of the front). They offered both leather and synthetic options (with the latter being considerably cheaper). Besides the cost benefit, the synthetic seemed to match the rest of the seats well and was more suitable (longer lasting than leather) being a vehicle that was used for commercial running. They did a neat job which has lasted a good 2 year since with no one being able to tell the difference. I'm sure Nawala can manage a similar job without any problems. The key is to find a matching material with your upholsterer.

  13. Yo Batagoda, I agree with you on the fuel consumption in the AK12 and use the 90 octane petrol in the March and you'll find yourself struggling for power up inclines (I'll never forget that drive to Kandy after stinting on petrol - absolutely did my head in), but I wonder how you can categorically say that swifts require regular repairs like they are all coming apart at the seams - are you driving yours through Homs or Damascus or something? The 2004 swift I had was quite reliable and in the 2 years that I used it, I had zero repairs as such other than general maintenance common to all cars and it delivered me a neat 11km/l.

  14. AK12 very reliable but bad on fuel, Swift has regular repairs especially shock changes.

  17. Just an aside, my wife saw something like that on the back seat of the Ford a few years back and I had a hell's own job explaining and wriggling out of her pointed and somewhat challenging enquiries. Always had seat covers on the vehicles' seats since then. All a bit irrelevant I know. But that's life.

  18. you spent the money already right? if its too much are you gonna go ask him for a refund? or if too little are you gonna go pay him some more? Considering the effort needed I would think that its a pretty good deal. So why dont you go and give him about another Rs.1500 to make it worthwhile..
